Open letter to the PM of Japan

FUKUSHIMA DAIICHI IS NEVER GOING AWAY

Open letter to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan via Mr Yasuaki Nogawa Ambassador to New Zealand in anticipation of the Third Anniversary of the Earthquake, Tsunami and Melt-Downs that rocked Japan on 11/03/11.

Written by Kevin Hester of Auckland, NZ

CC'd to the Prime Minister of NZ, and the leaders of the major Political Parties in in NZ as well.

Dear Sir,

On the third anniversary of the Catastrophic Tsunami that struck Japan on 11/3/2011 and caused the triple meltdown of three of the six Nuclear Plants at Fukushima Daiichi, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to your long suffering people.
Since the disaster , all 48 of your nation’s commercial nuclear power reactors have been taken offline for safety inspections which they and Fukushima Daiichi’s six plants had previously passed yet still failed the test of Mother Nature.
On behalf of many of my country people here in Aotearoa, New Zealand and around the Pacific Ocean, I implore you not to proceed with your intention to bring these Nuclear Power Plants back on line.

One positive effect of the disaster has been major progress in energy-saving efforts in your wonderful innovative nation.

The peak nationwide power demand in the summer of 2013, when temperatures soared to record highs, was down 9.7 percent, or 17 gigawatts, from 2010. The decrease was equivalent to the output of 15 new nuclear reactors. Well done.
Surely Sir, the enormous discharges of radiation from these stricken plants into our communal Pacific Ocean and into the atmosphere over your country and thence, carried across the Pacific in the direction of In-numerable Pacific Islands, which have previously suffered terrible Nuclear fallout from Weapons testing …….. and then onto the United States of America, Canada and further afield, is a risk to great to take again, in light of the this experience.
Please do not take this incalculable risk once more.
We desperately need to learn from this mistake and not leave ourselves open to a catastrophic repeat of an accident that will haunt forever, this Planet, our Papatuanuku, all her people, every species on her and the natural environment of which we are guardians.
Kia Ora
Yours Sincerely
Kevin Hester.
