The Batman massacre

Max Keiser talks about hypocrisy and the Colorado massacre

The insanity of doubling down

21 July, 2012]

As I predicted, the Batman Massacre is being used to justify more guns, “One Moviegoer With a Gun Could Have Prevented 70 Innocent People From Being Shot.”

This is the age of doubling down. In economics, when too much debt is revealed to be the problem, the solution is to double down on more debt.

With man-made climate change and global warming causing premature human extinction, the solution is to ‘drill more,’ open the arctic and double down on death.

And with the problem of too many assault weapons in the hands of confused kids mowing down their neighbors at the movie theater the solution is… you guessed it, more guns.

How did this ‘When you find yourself in a hole keep digging’ religion take hold?

I think it has to do with a loss of humility – that I think had a seminal point on 9/11 – when a moment of humility was desperately needed and sorely lacking.

When a moment to consider what role the U.S. played in those attacks – could have led to some meaningful response – we instead got the ‘double down.’

Double down in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Double down on stripping rights with the Patriot Act.

Double down on election fraud with ‘Citizens United.’

The good news is, this brings us closer to the inflection point where the economy, environment and society all collapse under the weight of our collective stupidity – ushering in the next era.

It’s hard to imagine what lies around the corner for humanity, but hopefully it will be something with a bit more humility and lot less debt, guns and carbon emissions.
