fire at Yuzhno-Ukrainskaya power plant — the transformer near power
units ignited.
The fire could be seen even from the town. Glow was seen over the power plant and fire alarm was heard meters away.

Tonight
at 22:04 on the territory of «Yuzhno-Ukrainskaya AES» power plant
inside a transformer started a fire. The outbreak was extinguished
within an hour at 23:40. This was reported by press-service of the
power plant in Nikolayev region.
According
to radiation control conducted just after the area radiation
background does not exceed normal values. Special expert team is
working on the fire site to determine the cause and aftermath of
fire.
As
reported by press-service an emergency call was registered at local
fire-rescue service at 22:40. When emergency team arrived duty shift
staff of the power plant switched the transformer off. The fire was
extinguished with foam cannons. 16 equipment units and 125
fire-fighters were involved in the process.
Short
circuit was called the preliminary cause why the transformer caught
fire. Nuclear reactor haven’t stopped and has been operating
without
interruptions.
In the town of Yuzhno-Ukrainsk there is no panic among residents.
As
was reported before new Cabinet’s plan guided by Arseniy Yatsenyuk
provides power augmentation for Yuzhno-Ukrainsk power plant in
Nikolayev region.
