M4
repairs averted 'catastrophic collapse'
BBC,

July 2012
Engineers
say they had to close the M4 motorway at the weekend for emergency
repairs or there could have been a "catastrophic collapse".
Roads
Minister Mike Penning said he believes it is now "highly likely"
the motorway will re-open on Thursday, although he admitted it would
be hugely embarrassing if the route was not completely open in time
for the Olympics.
Derek
Turner, of the Highways Agency, said it was important the structure
was put right as soon as possible.
