Sea
ice area has actually declined over the last few days. This behavior
has been seen in some previous years also. Causes include large
export of ice through Fram Strait, winds causing ice divergence
leading to lower area and larger extent, or winds compacting ice,
causing rafting and ridging so decreasing the area and increasing
thickness. It would be nice to determine which scenario is the
case...
