Ukrainian troops which have encircled Slavyansk are firing their machine guns at any transport that is trying to move out of the city, preventing civilians from leaving, members of the self-defense forces are saying

“The city is encircled and civilians are not allowed to leave,” a representative of the self-defense forces told Itar-Tass. “Just recently, a family with a young child tried to leave the city by car. As a result, [the troops] opened fired, killing at least 2 people.”
According to the source, the government forces blockade points around the city have seen an influx of“people in black uniforms.”
“We suspect them to be from the Right Sector, but so far we have no concrete evidence,” the source said adding that he has information that “Kiev's junta” artillery units are being deployed to Slavyansk, in particular, Grad multiple rocket launcher systems.
Commander of the ‘Donetsk Republic’ self-defense forces, Igor Strelkov, confirmed the information saying that Grad batteries have been deployed to the outskirts of the city in addition to an “almost complete tank battalion” of some 30 tanks and a motorized infantry unit of around 20 armored infantry fighting vehicles, as well as a battery of “Akatia”, an artillery unit.
Strelkov says that all the barrels are pointed at Slavyansk, warning that once the assault starts, citizens of Slavyansk “will live badly, but not for long.” He says that volunteers, mostly men in their forties, are continuing to join the ranks of the self-defense pro-federalization forces, to “defend their native city.”
On May 5 several checkpoints came under attack around the city of Slavyansk. Casualties were reported on both sides. Donetsk Health Department reports that at least 8 people died and 16 others injured when the troops started the assault on the city, trying to fight their way in into the center of the city.
With support of armored vehicles, artillery, and the air force the Ukrainian troops encircled Slavyansk but did not retake the city from the pro-federalization forces. Strelkov said that at least 10 of his men died in the last attempt.
“We suffered losses – about 10 people, including civilians, 20-25 people were injured. I do not know the losses of our adversaries; clearly they are smaller than ours, they have armor. Most of our losses came from plainclothes [troops], disguised as civilians,” he said.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said four of its troops were killed and some 30 others injured in Slavyansk during Monday’s attack. There were also casualties among the civilian population of the city, the ministry added.

Shooting
in Ukraine’s Mariupol as self-defense forces fears Kiev resumes
assault
Sporadic
shooting can be heard in Mariupol, Ukraine's south-east, witnesses
say. The city’s self-defense fears the Ukrainian special forces
have resumed the assault and their operation will soon reach an
intensive stage

“It looks like the assault has started,” Mikhail Krutko from the self-defense headquarters told Interfax news agency, adding that there is no information about injuries or victims. "We have just now started getting messages about a massive attack on our checkpoints, located in the western part of the city.”
A local activist named Dmitry has confirmed to RT that “intensive shooting can be heard.”
As RT has been told by a local source, there has also been a shooting near Mariupol airport.
“People in black and camouflage have shot at several vehicles,” the source said, adding that there was no information about injuries at the moment.
According to RIA Novosti citing its source from Donetsk, “unknown men attacked several checkpoints”.
“There was shooting in the area close to a military base near the airport,” the source said. It also added that the shooting has calmed down for now and only single shots can be heard.
The source said that “the assault” did not look like “active actions by the regular army” because the men were wearing uniforms without matching camouflage print.
There are still conflicting reports on casualties after the attack.
While the source from Donetsk told RIA Novosti that no casualties have been reported, a self-defense unit’s representative in Donbas Dmitry Simonov told ITAR-TASS that one person was killed and three injured.
Reports on Twitter say activists are building barricades and burning tires around the city council offices they have been occupying.
This video below that was shot at 20:29 local time as the voice says it shows streets surrounding Mariupol’s city council. The man says the fire is burning tires.
Entrances into the coastal city have allegedly been blocked. Self-defense forces reportedly advise everyone in the streets to seek shelter as the civil alarm goes off. According to other claims, protesters use public transport vehicles to block the streets.
On May 3, Ukrainian troops briefly moved into the city late at night surrounding an administrative building held by anti-government protesters. Offices of Privatbank were set ablaze and burnt to ashes.
Meanwhile, the military operation is currently continuing in a number of cities and towns in the Donetsk region with less than 20 days left till the Kiev-set May, 25 presidential elections.
Acting Ukrainian President Aleksandr Turchinov has signed a law starting partial mobilization in the country. Earlier on Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament supported the extension of the mobilization and approved a plan to strengthen Ukraine's defense capability and security.
"A very important decision has been made today - to extend the mobilization campaign. Those who were earlier mobilized and served 45 days, will be demobilized, and replaced by other patriots," leader of the Svoboda parliamentary faction, presidential candidate Oleg Tyagnibok said as cited by Kiev Post.
The Ukrainian army has been conducting a new stage of the military operation against autonomy supporters in the country’s south-east starting May, 2. On May 5 several checkpoints came under attack around the city of Slavyansk. Casualties were reported on both sides. On May 6, anti-government protesters seized yet another administrative building in the Donetsk region.
Odessa:
Kiev sends its Nazi units to 'stop the fighting'
Kiev
sent ‘elite National Guard unit’ to halt the fighting in Odessa.
Created six weeks ago the ‘elite’ force is made up mostly of the
neo-nazi and ultra-right activists. Is it really the right choice to
quell the violence? Or is the agenda different?

We
are discussing it with Leo Korolkov, Russian expert in security and
counter-terrorism issues, and John Nomikos, the Chairman of the
European Intelligence Academy (EIA).
According
to AP report, Kiev announced it was sending an ‘elite National
Guard unit’ to Odessa, in a “desperate attempt to halt a spread
of the fighting between government troops and a pro-Russia militia”.
The
National Guard of Ukraine, re-established on March 13, 2014 after it
had been disbanded in 2000, is now made up of the ultra rightist and
neo-nazi activists, who used to be most instrumental in stirring up
violence in Maidan. Now, could the deployment of such force really
help to stop the violence? Who are the real fighters employed by Kiev
authorities? And what is their true agenda?
Leo
Korolkov:
The
so-called National Guard is not an elite detachment, because it was
formed in a too short time. The personnel of the National Guard are
the former members of the EuroMaidan, Right Sector and criminal
elements from the western Ukraine regions. But, nevertheless, it is
the foundation of the Kiev Government, because 8 ministers are
ultranationalists. These are usual criminal elements, but they have
enough rifles, which they took from the arsenals of the Ukrainian
Army.
Are
there any professionals engaged?
In
the tragic events in Odessa participated the so-called football
ultras. But in reality it was the members of the so-called
territorial battalions which were formed in the Dnepropetrovsk
region, in Zaporozhe region, Vinnitsa region. They backed ultras.
They were armed enough to defeat the anti-Maidan forces.
In
my opinion, among them there were some members of the private
military companies or mercenaries because there were real snipers who
were shooting people in the Trade Union House. Maybe, there are not
many of such personnel, but they are very qualified.
John
Nomikos:
Right
now I think they are creating some civil conflict, like Greece used
to have in 1946-1949. The question is – why would they want to do
that? Why do they want to create a civil war? Here we have some kind
of a plan how to create problems to the Russian economy, to the
Russian industry, to the Russian people. But who is the victim of
this whole situation? The people of Ukraine.
Any
country, including Greece, including the US, including any member of
the EU should act to protect the minority. But I don’t understand
why this illegitimate government tries to push things to the corner.
It
looks like this government is following the orders that come from the
US, because every visit by a high US official has been followed by a
surging violence.
I
think the President of the US should think twice how to stop the fire
and not how to create a civil war. I heard a lot of things here in
Greece about the Greeks who live in Ukraine and they want to come to
Greece. Why they would want to come to Greece? That’s their home.
It is like the Jews who tried to escape from the WW II to Israel. The
genocide that Ukraine goes through today is exactly like the genocide
the Jewish people had form the Nazis.
