Mass arrests in Istanbul

70 lawyers arrested in Istanbul

Istanbul. More than 50 lawyers have been arrested and faced Chaklayan court in Istanbul, because of their participation in the protests at Taksim Square, which have been continuing for 12 days in the country, Hurriyet newspaper informed.

Police officers interfere in the protest in the court building in support of the arrested layers. Around 100 lawyers are now waiting at the police station and insist on the release of their colleagues. This is the third protest of the kind that lawyers organize in support of protesters on Taksim Square.

Video shot at Gezi Park during the police intervention a few hours ago. The attacks mostly concentrated on the adjacent Taksim Square. While the protesters or their tents were not removed from the park, it was still heavily gassed.

Governor Mutlu had personally assured the public from his Twitter account this morning, saying: "Gezi Park and Taksim will absolutely not be touched, you will definitely not be touched. Your safety will be guaranteed by your police brothers this morning and later on."
