Earthquake
Hits Gulf of Mexico
A
very rare event has taken place in the Gulf of Mexico Sunday: A
Magnitude 4.6 earthquake!
The
quake took place at 12:47 PM eastern US time at a very shallow depth
of only 10km. It was felt all the way to New Orleans, Louisiana,
but no damage was reported.
Earthquakes
in the Gulf of Mexico are incredibly rare. Regional records only
show THREE other quakes anywhere in the entire Gulf, over the last
100 years; all smaller than Sunday's.
