Trump Will Announce Iran Deal Decision At 2 PM Tuesday
Zero Hedge,
7 May, 2018
President Donald Trump tweeted Monday afternoon that he will be announcing his long-awaited decision on whether the US will be pulling out of the Iran deal tomorrow at 2 pm ET. The decision will be announced from the White House.
I will be announcing my decision on the Iran Deal tomorrow from the White House at 2:00pm.
Additionally, Israel's Channel 10 news reports that it is not clear that European pressure will persuade Trump to maintain The Iran Accord.
There's been some speculation that Trump might continue pursuing negotiations even after ending the waiver on the US's sanctions against Iran, using the period before the most draconian sanctions kick back in as leverage to try and achieve restrictions on Iran's ballistic missile program.
The
announcement triggered a "sell the news" reaction in oil,
pushing WTI back below $70...
So
much for John Kerry's "shadow diplomacy." If anything,
Kerry's actions pushed Trump towards what many suspect will be a
termination of the deal, since any back-pedalling now would tilt
towards Kerry as saving the deal last minute.
Trump Likely To Scrap Iran Deal, Reimpose Sanctions: NYT
President
Donald Trump is committed to regime change in Iran, said Rudy
Giuliani, Trump's newest controversial attorney (although perhaps not
for long) and longtime informal advisor.
Speaking
to reporters after a Saturday keynote to the Iran Freedom Convention
for Democracy and Human Rights in Washington, Giuliani said "We
got a president who is tough, who does not listen to the people who
are naysayers, and a president who is as committed to regime change
as we are." In other words, pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal
is now being conflated with regime change in Iran.
Giuliani
says he's been a supporter of regime change for "ten years,"
that it's the only way to peace in the middle east, and that it's
"more important than an Israeli-Palestinian deal."....
President Trump to Announce Decision on Iran Nuclear Deal, 2:00 PM Tuesday
The
President of the United States (POTUS) has tweeted that he will
announce his decision on re-certifying the Iran nuclear deal,
tomorrow at about 2:00 PM from the White House.
There
is very wide speculation about the decision. Many believe the
President will re-Certify Iran's compliance and thus continue with
the deal. Just as many believe the President sees this as a
very bad deal and will DECLINE to Certify Iran's compliance, thereby
withdrawing the United States from the agreement.
There
are great risks to either choice. Certifying the deal in its
present form, is virtually meaningless because there are insufficient
conditions within the deal to actually VERIFY that Iran is not
developing nuclear weapons.
Declining
to re-Certify it means the deal falls apart virtually instantly.
Iran has previously made known that if the US withdraws from the
deal, then Iran itself will withdraw from it as well. That
would affect every other nation which is signatory to the deal.
Iran
has also said it will have a "surprise" for the United
States very shortly after the deal is ended. Many have
speculated the Iranians may be able to develop an actual nuclear bomb
with two weeks; the Israelis certainly feel that way (but they're
paranoid).
The
decision about re-certification must be made by its deadline,
May 12 - this coming Saturday.
