Melbourne is going to sizzle over the next few days, but it'll be hotter still in Horsham.

Conditions
outside are now getting worse and worse by the minute. Right now,
nearly all of Melbourne is at 40c. Coastal areas near Frankston etc
are around 10c cooler so around the 30c mark. The winds are only
going to get stronger as the day goes on. Melbourne Airport just had
a peak gust at 76 km/h.
There
is an out of control grass fire just off Cooper St in Epping. That is
the only fire at the moment.
Because
todays heat is mainly from the hot northerlies, the temperature
shouldn't go much higher than the forecasted 41C!!
From the Age
After
a humid Friday that reached 35.4 degrees in Melbourne, southerly
winds brought temperatures back down to 23 degrees by 5pm.
Melbourne
didn't quite reach a predicted high of 37 degrees, but temperatures
varied wildly across the state. While Melbourne Airport recorded 40.9
degrees at about 3.30pm, it was much cooler in other parts of
Victoria, such as Aireys Inlet which reached just 21.8 degrees.
Meanwhile,
the bureau has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for damaging wind
for the Mallee, Wimmera and parts of the Central, South West and
North Central regions of Victoria.
Severe
thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in those areas in
the next few hours, with a gust of 90km/h already recorded at
Hopetoun.
Saturday
is still set to be a scorcher, with a top of 41 degrees forecast for
Melbourne.
Bureau
of Meteorology senior forecaster Tony Bannister said the temperature
in the city will likely hit 35 degrees by about 11am, and 41 by 5pm.
"Once
the northerlies come in, we'll heat up quite quickly," he said.
Saturday
night is set to be a restless one for those without air conditioning,
as Melbourne temperatures won't get any lower than 28 degrees
overnight.
"It's
going to be miserable. It's going to be really hard to sleep tomorrow
night. Also it's likely to be windy," Mr Bannister said.
While
Saturday will hit 41 in Melbourne, Mr Bannister said windy and dry
conditions means it will feel more like 33 degrees.
Sunday
is forecast to reach 37 degrees, with a cool change set to reach
Melbourne by early afternoon.
