You Tube went down for several hours- Was it Saudi Arabia?

YouTube users question sanity, reality as service goes dark worldwide

YouTube users question sanity, reality as service goes dark worldwide

17 October, 2018

YouTube has suffered a massive outage, with users from all across the globe rushing to alternative social media platforms to vent their frustration and seek psychological support from fellow victims of #YouTubeDOWN disaster.
The video-sharing website experienced a service disruption across the northeastern United States, as well as parts of the West and East Coasts. Users in Australia, Mexico, Brazil and the EU have also been affected, according to thousands of reports on the Down Detector monitoring site. YouTube videos began returning errors around 9pm EST. The site infrastructure was still loading for users, but the videos themselves did not play and were replaced by error messages imploring users to “please try again later.”

The company soon acknowledged it had received many “reports of access issues” about YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music. “We're working on resolving this and will let you know once fixed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated,” it said in a tweet.

However, it took the team of “highly trained monkeys” – as the company lovingly calls their engineers – more than an hour to deal with the situation before users began reporting that the service was reinstated.

Thanks for your reports about YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music access issues. We're working on resolving this and will let you know once fixed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated.
Twitter and Facebook erupted with traffic as users tried to figure out what was going on, but no one seems to have solved the mystery yet. Deprived of their ability to watch video clips, people did their best with GIFs.

Good to know that I'm not the only one to jump to Twitter to see what was going on
Meanwhile, some users rushed to ‘alternative’ video-hosting websites, which seem to have successfully withstood the sudden boost in traffic.

You don’t realize how much YouTube you actually watch until the site goes down.

Here is another slant on the story.

CHASE BANK TOO?
Other major sites are now gone too, and it appears CHASE BANK is now headed down as well (HERE)

UPDATE 9:57 PM EDT --
According to Digital Attack Map, much of the trouble worldwide SEEMS to be emanating from . . . Saudi Arabia!

Could it be the tiny kingdom doesn't like the world finding out their government murdered a Journalist and cut him to pieces while he was still alive? (Story Here) Could this be an actual act of military sabotage against the global Internet to shut down the flow of information the Saudis don't like?

Here's the Digital Attack Map:

NOW WELLS FARGO BANK TOO?
Wells Fargo Bank seems to be going down now too . . . (HERE)

WESTERN UNION (UK) DOWN
Western Union seems to be going down globally too - multiple reports it si down throughout the UK.

UPDATE 10:08 PM EDT --
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is now the central source for DNS reflection attacks. Something going down in KSA. They don't want info getting in/out KSA.

UPDATE 11:24 PM EDT --
Internet Routers are working to isolate the attacking networks. Trash IP-Fragments and DNS-Reflections are being isolated. As a result, large portions of the global Internet are returning to functionality. Youtube was up and down several times, but appears to be back now.

No official explanation for what took place. While it APPEARS to be clearing out, whatever happened and whoever did it needs to be determined.
