Harry Reid 1993: 'No Sane Country' Would Do Birthright Citizenship; 9-20-1993
Former
Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) criticizes the status quo of birthright
citizenship being granted to anchor babies during a long critique of
the status quo of immigration - both lawful and unlawful -- into
America on the Senate floor.
"If
making it easy to be an illegal immigrant isn't enough, how about
offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country
would do that, right? Guess again. If you break our laws by entering
our country without permission to give birth to a child, we reward
that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee a full access to all
public and social services this society provides, and that's a lot of
services. Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at
taxpayer expense in county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to
illegal alien mothers?"
