Another nuclear disaster?

Just remember that it was France that tried to completely lock down any release of information after Chernobyl.  I wouldn't expect anything other than lies from the French government

Fears of radiation leak after explosion at nuclear plant in southern France

ONE person was killed and another seriously injured in an explosion last night in a site that treats nuclear waste in southern France.

The Nuclear Safety Authority said three other people suffered lesser injuries in the blast at 11.45am (7.45pm AEST) at Codolet in the Rhone Valley near Nimes.

France's Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) said that no radioactive leaks have been detected after the blast in an oven at the Centraco centre.

The oven had been burning contaminated waste, including fuels, tools and clothing which had been used in nuclear energy production.

National electricity provider EDF confirmed the initial death toll. One of the injured is in a serious condition, the ASN said.

The regulator had said earlier that there was a risk of a radioactive leak after the blast at the centre owned by EDF subsidiary Socodei. "Initial reports suggest there was an explosion in an oven used to melt metallic low- and very low-level radioactive waste," the ASN said.

An EDF spokesman said: "This is an industrial accident, not a nuclear accident."

Report raises concerns over safety of nuclear plants

The government's nuclear industry regulator said it is continuing to monitor information from foreign counterparts after safety concerns were raised about construction processes at a Chinese power plant being built by two French companies who want to construct similar installations in Britain.

The concerns mirror some of those raised at sites in France and Finland, which are also being built and operated by EDF and Areva.

A report on the Taishan site which was compiled immediately before building started, warned the Chinese plant's managers that "quality control of concrete pouring should be strengthened" and they should make proper preparations for wet weather, which can affect the construction process.
