Discussion on the Gulf Stream

There has been some discussion on Sam Carana’s Facebook page. Food for thought.

Is this becoming a thing?

For the past months I have seen this wind pattern a few times. The Gulf stream is sucked into it, and creates a warm path of water underlying the path of warm air, that both reach straight for the North Pole. Cold air takes a similar but opposite path, that eventually will end up blending with the Gulf stream, that is raging quite a bit lately.

The cycle could look like this:

>Warmer stream reaches for the North Pole
>Extra land ice melts and goes into water
>Extra cold waters hit the Gulf stream and extra cool it
>Colder stream reaches for the North Pole
>No extra land ice melts and goes into water
>Extra warm waters hit the Gulf stream, and extra don't cool it
>Warmer stream reaches for the North Pole
>repeat

It could become a new, steady, self feeding cycle that spans some months or even years, could it? Can someone give some extra insights?
