New Zealand decides: the flag referendum result
Preliminary
results show New Zealanders have voted to keep the country's existing
flag.
Key points
- Voting closed at 7pm, with preliminary results out at 8.30pm. Official results will follow on 30 March.
- Voters were asked to choose between the current flag and Kyle Lockwood's blue and black alternative design, which features a silver fern and the Southern Cross.
- The alternative design was chosen from a shortlist of five in an earlier referendum, held in November
