Indonesia earthquake: Magnitude 6.1 quake ROCKS Sumbawa - Ring of Fire shakes

A STRONG earthquake of magnitude 6.1 has hit an Indonesian island today according to the US Geological Survey.

Since Margo's report there has been a further 6.4 magnitude earthquake.

6.4 earthquake strikes south of Indonesia's island of Sumbawa - USGS

*Strange Geological Event* - Cascadia Subduction Zone - "Megathrust Fault"

  • Herndon, Virginia - 10 seconds
  • Los Angeles - January 21st 2019 at approximately 1:10 a.m.. It was just a quick little shake. I didn\'t really feel it but I heard the things on my dresser just kind of rattle real quick.
  • Mattoon, WI 54450 - Earthquake,not sure, seemed unusual. It sounded/felt like something very heavy impacting the ground but came from underneath me. It was quick, started with a jolt quickly followed by vibration like shimmy. My house creaked, and rattled in kitchen area, felt like it was under house. My furnace vibrates house when blower runs, but this was much bigger and furnace wasn't running at time. No damage. Lasted 2 seconds or so. Est time 2:30AM Central time US. I was awake sitting in chair.
  • Orillia, ON, Canada - Between 5-5:10am felt like something very large was dropped / fell over in the basement. Glass rattled on the main floor for 2 seconds and dogs barked.

  • Mexico City - No property damage. The ceiling light and wardrobe door were swinging.
  • Huatulco - Weak shaking
  • La Crucecita - Lasted perhaps 15-20 seconds, no damage, glass sliding door rattled, furniture shook slghtly
  • Huatulco - Bed lightly shook for approximately six seconds. No damage that I am aware of.
  • La Crucecita - I was asleep and it woke me up when my bed was shaking. After I woke up, the shaking went on for 5-10 seconds and then stopped
  • San Cristobal de las Casas - Just before 5AM US Central time I was reading in bed in our travel van. The van rocked some, not enough to wake my wife, for 4-7 seconds. No damage.
  • Playa Chahuie - Woke us up in bed and it shook about 10-15 seconds our bed and patio doors
