Additional energy in atmosphere in line with high temperatures over land and high sea surface temperatures

Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) is forecast to be as high as 5909 J/kg on June 2, 2018, at the location in the United States marked by the green circle.

The huge amounts of additional energy in the atmosphere are in line with high temperatures over land and high sea surface temperatures.



For June 1, 2018, temperatures are forecast to be as high as 45.1°C or 113.3°F (at the green circle, at 1000 mb or hPa).



Sea surface on May 31, 2018, was as much as 9.6°C or 17.2°F warmer off the North American coast than 1981-2011 (at green circle).
