Who needs enemies when you have friends?

CAMS and their “insanely stupid charts”

This appeared on Facebook this morning -

If you look at CAMS, their insanely stupid charts consistently maintain that there is almost NO METHANE coming out of the Arctic Permafrost and Arctic Shallows in Alaska and Canada and most of the Siberian Coastline.

This is the CAMS Surface Chart where you would look to see the origination point for the massive release of Methane from the MetOp 1 and 2 Satellites. Obviously, CAMS is a ruse trying to deceive the public into believing that there is no methane release in 90 percent of the Arctic coastal areas.
Compare CAMS (Copernicus Atmospheric Measuring System) to the MetOp satellite data. MetOp satellites are recording beaucoup methane coming out of the Arctic shallow waters and the Arctic permafrost. MetOp also shows frightening methane release from the northern Pacific and even shows a large methane release in Antarctica.”

So, CAMS “with their insanely stupid charts” show almost NO methane coming from Alaska?!

Here is the chart for Alaska, taken from surface level (not 500 where others like toke their measurements).

So, according to Joe Neubarth in his infinite wisdom 1950- 2000 ppb (or thereabouts) is “almost NO methane”)!

Of course, if you don’t look carefully and see GREEN you may be fooled by their colour code which they change on a regular basis.

But that is another story altogether.

PS. Some seem to think CAMS useless but the reasons given are dubious in my mine. NOAA give particular data but often have whole areas of data missing and in addition to that there is nothing you can do with it unless some citizen researcher like David Allcock goes to the trouble of recording the data every day and comparing it.

CAMS is based on a combination of real data with several days of forecast that often turn out to be accurate enough.

"We use satellite and ground-based observations with forecast models to support businesses, policy makers and scientists dealing with the challenges and opportunities related to the composition of the atmosphere. "

What they do, however is to no present data for up to a week and removing it quickly.

We already have methane wars with Michael Mann and Yale/USGS. Why Joe Neubarth wants to fire salvos is beyond me.

How can you ever have a meaningful discussion when what is coming out from the other side is factually incorrect?
