the city of Jalalabad and 130 kilometers west of Chitral in
neighboring Pakistan, AFP reported.
The quake was also felt in Kabul and in northwestern Pakistan as well as in Islamabad.
Tremors are a regular event in northern Afghanistan, especially around the Hindu Kush mountain range, which lies near the collision of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
In June, two moderate quakes triggered landslides that killed 75 people in northern Afghanistan.
