Hundreds of veterans march, rally at White House for Ron Paul

21 Febraury, 2012

Veterans of the United States military marched to the White House and rallied for 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. Organizers of the event notified the Washington establishment that Paul was the "choice of the troops."

Since the 2008 presidential election, Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul has received more funds from active-military members than his Republican rivals. This year, Digital Journal reported that not only did the libertarian-leaning congressman raise a lot more money than this GOP opponents, but also President Barack Obama.

On Monday, hundreds of active duty troops, veterans and Paul voters rallied at the Washington monument and marched to the White House to show their support for the three-time presidential candidate.

The event, which was organized by Adam Kokesh, a libertarian activist and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, and Nathan Cox, co-founder of Veterans for Ron Paul, opposed the foreign policy of the U.S. government.

Paul, who has received a lot of criticism from the Republican base for his stances, is a non-interventionist that opposes pre-emptive war, wants to bring troops home from Germany, South Korea, Japan, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere and supports defense spending over military spending.

Instead, the bestselling author wants to apply the “golden rule” to foreign policy, which was actually disapproved as some Republican voters booed the Texas Congressman during a debate held in South Carolina last month. However, the voters did cheer when former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said to “kill them,” referencing enemies of the U.S. government.

As the supporters marched, they held moments of silence and salutes and each second was for every suicide that has transpired since President Obama took office nearly four years ago.

“The message of Ron Paul, it's as simple as that. We want a Commander-in-chief who will be decisive, put America's security first, and only send troops into harm’s way with a clear mission,” said Kokesh in an interview with the Washington Times regarding Monday’s march. “Ron Paul is the only candidate with a pragmatic and principled foreign policy.”

Although it was a huge rally in support of Paul’s presidential campaign and the non-intervention foreign policy message, much of the mainstream media did not cover it. Upon skimming Google News, there are only short articles on a few websites, such as ABC News Blog, Slate, the Houston Chronicle blog and Austin News.

Despite the lack of attention, attendees are still enthusiastic and positive about what was accomplished Monday.

“That was honestly one of the greatest experiences of my life! Amazingly energizing and truly inspirational! I love the liberty movement. The only problem with it is that any time we get together there's just too many awesome people to talk to and way too little time to do it!” wrote David Kirk West on Facebook.

“It was amazing to see so much support for such a great event. Makin' history, Ron Paul 2012! Thanks to everyone who took time today to be a part of something so monumental. See you all in Tampa.” wrote Kevin Barlow.

The next scheduled GOP contest will take place on Feb. 28 where the states of Arizona and Michigan hold primaries. Prior to that, CNN will host a presidential debate on Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. EST at the Mesa Arts Center in Arizona.

"I wish I could have marched but since I'm stationed in Germany I couldn't, but I did watch it online from finish to end...the members that did march were ambassadors of voice and vision to our people"
