Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army stormed a number of villages in western Al-Raqqa, striking the Islamic State’s weak defenses from the northern flank.

According to a military source from the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army liberated more than 15 villages in the Al-Raqqa Governorate after a fierce battle with the Islamic State.

As a result of today’s advance, the Syrian Arab Army has reached parts of the Al-Raqqa Governorate that they have not seen since their withdrawal from the area in early 2013.

Russia Warns US Not to Strike Syrian Govt Forces Again
Lavrov wanted Tillerson's full attention in Saturday's call

12 June, 2017

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a phone call Saturday with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, warned that Russia considers the recent US attacks on pro-government forces in southern Syria categorically unacceptable, and said the US must take steps to prevent any further clashes of this sort.

The US had multiple recent incidents in which they’ve attacked Shi’ite militia forces in southern Syria, accusing them of getting too close to a rebel base which has US personnel stationed in it. The indications, however, are that the Shi’ite militias in the region have been attacking ISIS and al-Qaeda forces, not the US-backed rebels at al-Tanf.
Russia has harshly criticized the US attacks, saying that they are risking cooperation in the fight against ISIS. Syrian officials have also issued a statement harshly criticizing the US attacks, noting that the US presence was never authorized by the government in the first place, and that they consider attacks on their allies within Syrian soil is a violation of sovereignty.
The US has maintained that its various attacks were done in “self-defense” because the “regime forces” got too close to the Tanf base, despite no suggestion they were moving against the base in the first place.
The US has made clear they are displeased with the Shi’ite militias’ efforts to reach the Iraqi border, and link up with Iraqi militia forces fighting ISIS there, but there appears to be no real basis for the US to prevent this move.

Syrian troops move closer to Raqqa as the US drops chemical weapons on the city

Recent video has emerged of the US dropping what appears to be toxic white phosphorus munitions on the city.
12 June, 2017

The Syrian Arab Army has captured villages in Al-Raqqa Governorate for the first time since ISIS forced Syrian troops to abandon the region to terrorists in 2013.
Syria’s elite Tiger Forces have been making remarkable progress in the race to Raqqa while the United States is also trying to get a piece of the largely symbolic self-proclaimed capital of the so-called Islamic State.

Just as they had done in their Iraqi stronghold of Mosul, ISIS fighters in Raqqa have been fleeing the city with Deir ez-Zor being their primary destination.
This comes as the US planes have been filmed dropping what appears to be the illegal chemical weapon white phosphorus on the city.

The US has not thus far commented on these reports, although the images make it clear that the US is using the same substance that the Ukrainian regime has used on the Donbass republics in the recent past.
