The Arctic ice melt in the Laptev Sea - 10/02/2015

Arctic update - 10/02/2015

From Harold Hensel, via Facebook, with thanks

10 02 2015 and 10 01 2015 for comparison.

The Laptev Sea is on the top and center.

Yesterday

Today

The sea ice continues to break up and is moving to the left.

A wider gap is visible on the lower right indicating how far the ice has moved in one day. Disturbing the Laptev Sea with free methane sources, methane hydrates and mantel methane fracture rouutes below is not a good idea.

The Laptev Sea floor has been frozen and undisturbed since at least 8000+ BC.

It looks like we are the ones who are going to find out what is going to happen when it thaws out.

Close up of Arctic Sea ice breaking up 10 02 2015. The location is in and near the Laptev Sea. Keep the 20 mile scale on the lower right in mind.
