Malaysia/Singapore and the Indonesian fires

The point has been made that :

"the haze blanketing Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia is an annual affair that affects schools as well as airport operations, causing massive flight disruptions"

However, this is not the point.

This annual event of burning-off rain forests has to be seen in the context of an el-Nino -on-steroids fed by abrupt climate change creating yet more positive feedbacks for global warming by realeasing more carbon into the atmosphere than is being absorbed.

Say goodbye to the idea of a carbon sink

Putrajaya looking to adopt Singaporean law on transboundary haze

Putrajaya is currently studying the possibility of adopting a new law on tackling transboundary haze passed in neighbouring Singapore, after almost two decades of having to battle the annual haze problem affecting the region.

El Niño exacerbating haze conditions, says minister

Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment says the dry conditions caused by El Niño are driving up cyclones Koppu and Champ, which in turn are negatively impacting prevailing wind patterns that are carrying the haze to Malaysia.
