Residents in the northeastern Chinese city of Tonghua have been stuck in their homes due to the local government’s lockdown order. Many of them have been running out of food, if not getting insufficient amounts of it. Locals have complained of a food shortage and inadequate rations after being locked inside their homes for several days. State-run media outlet Xinhua News Agency reported Jan. 27 that many are still required to stay home, despite the city testing all residents for the Wuhan coronavirus thrice.
The local government of Tonghua ordered the citywide lockdown Jan. 18, prohibiting people from going outside. Community volunteers are in charge of distributing food supplies to residents who cannot leave their homes. The Epoch Times managed to get in touch with some of the volunteers to find out the actual situation in the city.

CLEVELAND — Aubrey Lewis has been a nurse at University Hospitals for four years, and for nearly the last year of that time, her work has been dedicated to fighting COVID-19.
“I work with COVID-19 patients on a daily basis,” she said.
She received her first dose of the Moderna vaccine 10 days ago.
“When I got my vaccine, initially, I did not have any side effects at all,” she said.
But after a few days, she noticed swelling in one of her lymph nodes.

As a nurse, it made her nervous.
“I was like ’that’s a weird spot to have a tender lymph node,’ but as soon as I put two and two together—that I had just got the COVID vaccine on that side—I figured it was related to that,” she said.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has asked the Pentagon to ready as many as 10,000 troops to support 100 COVID-19 vaccination sites nationwide, with the goal of administering 450,000 vaccinations a day.
The federal government envisions 50 "mega" vaccination sites capable of administering 6,000 shots per day, in addition to 50 "large" vaccination sites providing 3,000 shots per day, according to defense officials.
The first of the FEMA-powered vaccination sites are expected to be operating by mid-February, a senior White House official told CBS News, and will scale up as vaccine production intensifies in the coming months.
FEMA's "Prepare to Deploy Order" to the Department of Defense (DOD) is expected to be approved, but has not yet been greenlighted. California, Virginia, Michigan, Delaware and New Mexico are among the states that have requested federally run vaccine centers.

BERN, Switzerland, January 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Taking advantage of a unique provision in their constitution, campaigners in Switzerland have garnered sufficient signatures to force a national referendum aimed at stripping the government of its powers to impose pandemic-related lockdown measures.
The group Friends of the Constitution solicited 86,000 signatures requiring a nation-wide vote on whether to repeal the government’s 2020 COVID-19 Act, which was passed in September, Business Insider reports.

Today a Council of Europe resolution has been voted that prohibits Member States from making vaccination against the coronavirus mandatory or that it can be used to discriminate against workers or anyone who does not get vaccinated.

And now, in Australia, another Western democracy, the virus may be used to justify isolating citizens in quarantined captivity in the Outback.

The premier of Queensland state wants to repurpose camps designed for resources workers as isolation hubs in remote scrubland where temperatures can top 100 degrees Fahrenheit. It follows an outbreak of a highly contagious coronavirus strain at a quarantine hotel in state capital Brisbane, Australia’s third-largest city with a population of about 2.5 million people.
“I think with this new strain, we have to put all options on the table and these are sensible, rational options,” Annastacia Palaszczuk, who was re-elected as Queensland premier in October, said.
The WSJ reported that one reason why she was reelected was due to her “center-left government’s tough measures to contain” the virus.

Starting from February 1, people in the US must wear masks on planes, trains, subways, buses, taxis, ships, and ferries. They must do the same in transportation hubs, including airports, train stations, and bus terminals.
Transportation companies and personnel were instructed to deny service to maskless passengers and to otherwise enforce the new rules.
The CDC said that surgical masks and N95 respirators fulfill the requirements of the order. Homemade masks are permitted too, as long as they completely cover the nose and mouth, and are “a solid piece of material without slits, exhalation valves, or punctures.”
Masks should have ear loops or elastic bands, and should “fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face,” the CDC added.
This makes the new rules less stringent than, for example, those in Austria, which recently instructed citizens to only wear higher-grade FFP2 respirators on public transportation and in supermarkets. In Germany, the orders are strict as well, with only higher-grade surgical masks and N95 and FFP2 respirators allowed.
