Russia: Sixty degrees below causes injuries in Yakutsk
Temperatures
dropped down to -60°C (-76°F) in the eastern city of Yakutsk on
Wednesday, a location with one of the highest difference in seasonal
temperatures in the world.
In
addition to more than 100 cold-related injuries the freeze resulted
in some flight cancellations due to low visibility, and the
cancellation of classes throughout Yakutsk.
The
recorded historic low in Yakutsk was only four degrees colder than on
Wednesday, measured at -64.4°C (-83.9°F), whereas the record high
reached 38.4 °C (101.1 °F).
