BREAKING NEWS: CNN alleges Russian missiles crashed in Iran; Tehran denies

I woke up this morning to the following headline from the BBC which emanated from CNN.

The phrase, 'from unnamed sources' rang alarm bells.

Syria crisis: Russian missiles 'fell on Iran'

Four Russian cruise missiles fired at Syria from the Caspian Sea landed in Iran, unnamed US officials say.

It was unclear whether the missiles caused any damage, they said.

On Wednesday, Russia said it had launched 26 cruise missiles at targets in north and north-west Syria. It has reiterated comments made at the time that all reached their targets.

The news came as Nato renewed assurances to defend its allies in view of Russia's "escalation" in Syria.

Nato is boosting its response forces to be able to deploy troops speedily.

The US officials provided no details of where the missiles might have landed.

Iran's Irna news agency reported on Wednesday that an unknown flying object had crashed in the village of Ghozghapan in the Iranian province of West Azerbaijan, said to be under the missiles' flight path.

But conservative Iranian media described the reports of missiles landing in Iran as "psychological operations by the US against Moscow".

"Since Russia began its operations in Syria, Western media and officials have launched an all-out assault against Moscow," the Fars News Agency, thought to have close affiliations with Iran's Revolutionary Guards, said.

It didn't take long for Moscow and Tehran to respond.

Tehran Has No Info on Cruise Missiles Which Allegedly Landed in Iran
Iranian defense ministry believes reports on "fallen Russian cruise missiles" are part of the intensified western propaganda war, according to a source.

Tehran has denied US reports that four of Russia's cruise missiles targeting ISIL actually fell to the ground in Iran, with the country's defense ministry calling the accusations "psychological war."

Russia's Defense Ministry also refutes US media reports of an alleged incident involving cruise missiles which were fired at ISIL positions in Syria on October 7, stating that all missiles hit their designated targets.
"No matter how unpleasant and unexpected for our colleagues in the Pentagon and Langley was yesterday's high-precision strike on Islamic State infrastructure in Syria, the fact remains that all missiles launched from our ships have found their targets," ministry's spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.
On Thursday, CNN reported that four of the 26 missiles fired from Russian warships in the Caspian Sea went off target and crashed in Iran. That report was based on anonymous Pentagon sources, who despite claiming to have evidence of the targeting malfunction, could not identify where, precisely, the missiles landed.
"In contrast to CNN we do not talk with reference to anonymous sources," Konashenkov said. "We show the launch of our rockets and the targets they struck."
Indeed, the Russian Defense Ministry has posted a number of videos to prove the accuracy of its targeting systems.

And from FARS News

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian defense ministry rejected reports alleging that four of the 26 cruise missiles fired from Russia's Caspian fleet at ISIL targets in Syria have crashed in Iran, saying the reports are part of the West's "psychological warfare".
