Emergency crews have been
attacking the eastern flank of the fire, trying to prevent the flames
spreading deeper into the heart of the park, towards Yosemite Valley.
But their work is hampered by the terrain.
Officials say it could
take several weeks to fully contain the fire, which started west of
the park on 17 August.
The Rim Fire now covers
more than 192,000 acres. On Wednesday, it forced the closure of
another road into Yosemite, before the Labor Day weekend.
