Recently re-elected NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will see New Zealand fall “further and further into the orbit of China,” without Winston Peters there as a check, according to Sky News host James Morrow.
Ms Ardern’s governing Labour Party won the election on Saturday in a landslide, meaning it no longer needs coalition partners – including former deputy prime minister Winston Peters – to form government.
The Party won 49.1% of the vote on Saturday evening which translates into a projected 64 seats and an outright parliamentary majority.
Mr Morrow argued the former deputy prime minister served as a check on some of Ms Ardern’s “loony lefty” policies.
New Zealand famously was the only Five Eyes nation which didn’t condemn China’s imposition of the draconian national security laws in Hong Kong.
“New Zealand’s going to fall further and further into the orbit of China,” Mr Morrow said.
“If this gives China a further foothold in New Zealand and in our neighbourhood, that’s very dangerous for us”.
Sky News host Rowan Dean said Ms Ardern is “right in the pocket of the Chinese."
