Iran
to do its best to restore stability to Syria: Salehi

dialogue between Syrian government and opposition, vowing Tehran’s
all-out support for the restoration of peace in the crisis-hit
country.

reports:
“The
Islamic Republic of Iran will use all its capacity and capability to
help the Syrian government and nation restore peace and security in
the country and the region,” Salehi said on Monday in a meeting
with Kojo Tsikata, special envoy of Ghanaian president, on the
sidelines of a two-day meeting held in Tehran to promote national
dialogue in Syria.
He
emphasized that the Syrian people should make the final decision on
their fate and national sovereignty.
The
Iranian government and nation only pave the way for national dialogue
among the Syrian government and various opposition groups, Salehi
pointed out.
Nearly
200 participants, including Syrian scholars, tribal and religious
leaders, representatives of different ethnicities, minorities and the
opposition as well as representatives from other countries,
participated in the Tehran meeting on Syria.
Tsikata,
for his part, lauded Iran’s measures to restore peace and security
in Syria and called on the Islamic Republic to proceed with its
constructive efforts.
Syria
has been experiencing a deadly unrest since March 2011 and many
people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have
been killed in the turmoil.
Iran
has repeatedly voiced its opposition to any foreign interference in
Syria's internal affairs, calling for inclusive dialogue and national
reconciliation as well as free elections as the key to the settlement
of the crisis in the country.
