CNN: Should The World Intervene in Syria?

Having watched the run ups to Panama, Grenada, Somalia, Bosnia, Iraq and Libya, this is an all-too familiar checklist. When this point was reached in all of these precedents, war was already a foregone conclusion. The British diplomat is sharp. But -- as I recall -- before we invaded Iraq there was a tremendous amount of clear thinking on the airwaves as well. It made no difference.
I do believe and hope that Iran, China and Russia have enough military and political chips to forestall and negate the threat of an air attack and direct intervention. But sanity is as scarce as energy now, and getting scarcer. This is brinksmanship ad absurdum. -- MCR
