Quake
in western Chile

A
strong earthquake has hit western Chile north of the capital,
Santiago.
The
US Geological Survey says the magnitude 6.1 quake occurred on the
coast at 4.02pm on Wednesday. It was initially reported as magnitude
6.0.
Onemi,
the state emergency office, said there were no reports of injuries or
infrastructure damage.
No
tsunami alert was issued.
Chile
was battered by a magnitude 8.8 quake and tsunami in February 2010.
