'It's
sort of the same island' - US TV host's bizarre rant

An
American TV presenter has exposed his ignorance after questioning the
top dog of Ireland's foreign investment agency, not realising that
Ireland was its own country.
CNBC's
Joe Kernen was shocked to learn that the Republic of Ireland is an
independent country and that it's been using the euro for 15 years.
Mr
Kernen, a veteran American presenter, was interviewing IDA Ireland's
new chief executive Martin Shanahan when he was repeatedly called out
for his lack of knowledge on Ireland.
Quizzing
Mr Shanahan on Ireland's economic recovery and its low tax regime,
the presenter was floored when he found out on live television that
Ireland and Northern Ireland are two different countries, The
Independent reports.
In
a bizarre rant, the presenter insisted Ireland should use the pound
because "it's sort of the same island" and suggested "you
guys gotta get it together" as Mr Shanahan tried, and failed, to
explain Northern Ireland is a different country and Dublin is "very
happy with the euro".
