Italy Launches Manslaughter Investigation As Teacher Dies Hours After Getting AstraZeneca Jab

After law-enforcement authorities in Sicily and Piedmont seized batches of the AstraZeneca COVID jab, prosecutors in the EU's third-largest economy have launched a manslaughter investigation after a music teacher died just hours after receiving the jab.

According to Italian-language media outlets, 57-year-old Sandro Tognatti died after receiving the jab in his hometown of Biella on Saturday afternoon. He soon developed a high fever, but went to bed anyway, he his wife, Simona Riussi, told the Italian press. 

The next morning, Riussi awoke to find Tognatti dead. She called an ambulance, but Tognatti was already dead. Prosecutors in Piedmont officially launched the investigation later in the day. As we mentioned above, prosecutors also seized a batch with nearly 400K jabs in it.

So far, health authorities have insisted that there's no link between the jab and Tognatti's death. Officials said a criminal investigation was launched to be "completely sure" that the man's death "cannot be attributed to the above-mentioned inoculation".

Italy, France, Germany and a handful of other nations temporarily suspended the AstraZeneca vaccine after reports of patients developing deadly blood clots surfaced. Deaths were reported in Austria and elsewhere, which prompted Denmark, Iceland and other nations (as far away as Thailand) to halt the jabs to allow for a brief investigation. AstraZeneca and the EMA (Europe's top regulatory authority) have insisted that there's nothing to suggest a link between the jabs and heightened risk for blood clots, but in a press conference Tuesday morning, the agency promised to investigate.

Among the more than 11M Italians who have already been vaccinated, Italian authorities have documented at least 15 cases of blood clots and 22 cases of pulmonary embolis among those who have received the jabs.

AstraZeneca said on Tuesday that it will supply the U.S. government with an additional 500,000 doses of its experimental, long-acting antibody-based Covid-19 combination treatment that aims to protect those who aren’t able to be vaccinated.

The $205 million agreement to supply the treatment—called AZD7442—builds on a deal the Anglo-Swedish drug manufacturer struck last year with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Under that deal, announced in October, the U.S. invested $486 million for the development and supply of 100,000 doses of AZD7442, with an option to acquire up to an additional one million doses in 2021.

Ireland became the latest country on Sunday to suspend the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by AstraZenaca and Oxford University after a Norwegian regulator reported a few recipients developed blood clots following their doses–mirroring developments in other countries that have taken similar precautions as the vaccine remains under clinical trials in the United States.

Ireland's health department recommended that the administration of AstraZeneca's vaccine be "temporarily deferred" immediately on Sunday morning, citing a report from the Norwegian Medicines Agency that highlighted four instances of "serious blood clotting events" in adults who had received the vaccine.

In a statement, the nation's deputy chief medical officer said it has not concluded that there is "any link" between the vaccine and the cases, but that the decision to suspend its administration was made out of precaution and pending further information.

Other countries, including Iceland, Denmark and Norway, suspended their administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine last week on separate concerns over blood clotting, but the World Health Organization and regional authorities have said there is no evidence the vaccines caused the coagulation.

May Rules Out Changes To Good Friday Agreement, Offers Parliament More Control Over Trade Negotiations

Update 3: In his rebuttal, Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn declared that "nothing has changed" on May's end, and that a deal will only become workable when the Prime Minister agrees to surrender some of her infamous "red lines" - presumably a reference to Tories insistence that the UK leave the single market and customs union.

There is a clear majority in this House to support a deal in principle and ratify results, but it would require face reality and accept that her deal has been defeated.

Before moving forward, May must rule out 'no deal' and stop the 'collossal waste of public money' being spent preparing for a no deal outcome.

Today, heralds the start of a Democratic process where this House will debate amendments that will determine how we navigate Brexit. I believe there may be a majority in the House for a proposal that would include a customs union a single market and an agreement that would ensure no race to the bottom on workers rights.

Corbyn said Labour will back amendments that seek to rule out the prospect of no deal...and also remain open to the prospect of a second referendum.

The pound has moved higher on May's deal outline as the lack of progress has raised the likelihood that Brexit will be delayed.

Update 2: After acknowledging that this weekend's car bombing in Derry was a stunning reminder of the high stakes of the Brexit process, May laid out her "Plan B" Brexit deal by setting forth six key issues that have dominated talks to date:

The right way to rule out 'no deal' would be for the House to pass a deal, not delaying Article 50.

1. No second referendum (May believes there isn't a majority for the second referendum, and even if there was, it would sow chaos and would strengthen the hand of those hoping to break up our United Kingdom. It would also require delaying Article 50 which - see point 1).
2. We must respect the Good Friday Agreement and not allow the return of a hard border. This government will not reopen the Good Friday Agreement.
3. We must figure out what kind of deal would pass Parliament then take this back to the EU. Ensuring Parliament has a "proper say" in the outcome of the eventual trade deal between the UK and EU to help assure the EU that an agreement won't be sabotaged by Parliament at the last minute. As the negotiations progress, we will look to deliver confidential committee sessions to avoid undermining negotiations.
4. Finally, we will reach out beyond this House and engage more fully with businesses, civil society and trade unions.
5. We must provide Parliament with a guarantee that we will not erode workers rights.
6. A number of members have made powerful representations about anxieties facing EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU. We have already committed to allowing EU citizens to stay in the UK and continue to access benefits in both a deal and no deal scenario. When we role out the scheme in full on March 30, the government will waive the application fee so there is no financial barrier for any EU nationals who wish to stay.

The vote on the motion to pass the updated deal will be held on Jan. 29. May will continue meeting with representatives from all parties as well as representatives from trade unions and the business community.

After days of increasingly fraught - and ultimately fruitless - 'cross party' talks, Prime Minister Theresa May will offer a motion to move ahead with her "Plan B" Brexit deal, which is widely expected to mostly resemble "Plan A", with a few minor tweaks. On Tuesday, the Commons voted down May's deal by a historic 230 vote margin, the most crushing defeat endured by a British government since the 1920s. But May's hope that the defeat would help bring the EU27 to the table has been dashed. The bloc's leaders have affirmed that, while they might be willing to make adjustments to the political statement setting out a framework for the trade deal that is expected to be negotiated during the post-Brexit Day transition period.

According to Reuters, the proposals that May is expected to bring before Parliament on Tuesday will focus on winning more concessions from the EU. May will make a statement in parliament at 1530 GMT (10:30 am ET), where she is expected to put forward a motion on her proposed next steps on Brexit.

"It is clear already that a significant number of colleagues have expressed concerns around the backstop and that is one of the areas that we are going to be looking at," May’s spokesman told reporters.

However, a 'cross party' group of rebel MPs who are reportedly plotting to seize power from May's government with an amendment that, if passed, would defy centuries of precedent could throw a wrench in the works.

Police Arrest Leader of Dutch ‘Yellow Vests’ Ahead of Nationwide Protests Against “Political Correctness”

Police in the Netherlands have arrested the leader of Dutch ‘yellow vests’ movement ahead of planned nationwide protests against “political correctness” and open border policies this weekend.

According to De Telegraaf, at around 9:45am this morning, “police arrested an activist of the ‘yellow vests’ in Maastricht for incitement via social media.”

The same man was arrested during last weekend’s yellow vest demonstration in Maastricht.

According to another member of the group, who argues that the arrested man has only ever been peaceful, the arrest is an effort to intimidate other protesters from joining the movement.

The ‘yellow vest’ movement is an organic uprising of working European citizens irate at their government’s open border and high taxation policies.

Dutch citizens will again take to the streets this weekend in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Maastricht, Groningen, and The Hague to protest against “political correctness,” open border policies and left-liberal Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

The group is calling for a lowering of the age at which pensions can be received, a reduction in excise duties and, according to one protester, the revolt is a statement “against the hardening of society.”“With the demonstration, I want to show that we want a voice,” she remarked, adding, “The problem is that we are no longer being heard. A lot is being decided over our heads.”

Organizers have banned banners, flags, or face coverings/balaclavas, perhaps in an effort to deter left-wing agitators.

Following weeks of protests across France, some of which turned violent, the French government announced it would permanently cancel planned gas tax hikes.

However, the demonstrations were not just about fuel tax and protesters have vowed to hit the streets again this weekend.

As we previously highlighted, the bulk of the demonstrators appear to be lower middle class and working class people who live in the countryside and small towns who have been left behind by globalism.

Demonstrators have seen their cost of living rise while migrants from the Middle East and Africa continue to arrive at taxpayer expense.

Last week, demonstrators scrawled scrawled “Macron resign” and “The yellow vests will triumph” on the famous Arc de Triomphe monument in Paris, while Macron, whose approval rating has sunk to 23 per cent, was also pelted with an egg during a public appearance.
