Lethal levels of radiation have been detected around the site which scientists say stems from a hole caused by melted nuclear fuel.

Rt.com reports:

Radiation levels of up to 530 Sieverts per hour were detected inside an inactive Reactor 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex damaged during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami catastrophe, Japanese media reported on Thursday citing the plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).
A dose of about 8 Sieverts is considered incurable and fatal.

A hole of no less than one square meter in size has also been discovered beneath the reactor’s pressure vessel, TEPCO said. According to researchers, the apparent opening in the metal grating of one of three reactors that had melted down in 2011, is believed to be have been caused by melted nuclear fuel that fell through the vessel.

The iron scaffolding has a melting point of 1500 degrees, TEPCO said, explaining that there is a possibility the fuel debris has fallen onto it and burnt the hole. Such fuel debris have been discovered on equipment at the bottom of the pressure vessel just above the hole, it added.

The latest findings were released after a recent camera probe inside the reactor, TEPCO said. Using a remote-controlled camera fitted on a long pipe, scientists managed to get images of hard-to-reach places where residual nuclear material

ALERT: Collapse imminent at Fukushima — TV: Officials find large section under reactor is “unstable… about to collapse” — “Bad, bad news… Time to reconsider that trip to the east coast of Japan” (VIDEOS)

NHK World, Feb 3, 2017 (emphasis added): The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is examining if it can go ahead with a plan to deploy a robot into one of the damaged reactors at the facility… An analysis of the images found that the radiation level inside the vessel was up to 530 sieverts per hour. Officials speculate that fuel debris–a mixture of nuclear fuel and melted parts of the reactor’s facility–may be emitting strong radiation  inside the vessel… Last week’s probe found that part of a metal grating just beneath the reactor was missing. The robot was supposed to move around on the grating. Theimage analysis also found that an around one square-meter section near the missing segment is about to collapse.

NHK World transcript, Feb 3, 2017: “[Tepco] is facing more setbacks. Tepco has found unstable grating near a rector that will make it difficult to conduct further surveillance to help it decommission the plant… They found a section the size of a square meter is about to collapse. They had already found holes in other sections… A nuclear power expert suggests that will make it difficult for workers to locate the fuel.”

NHK World transcript, Feb 3, 2017 (at 1:30 in): “Engineers were able to get a glimpse inside Reactor No. 2… They found that a section one meter square is about to collapse. They had already found holes in other sections.”

Asahi, Feb 3, 2017: TEPCO said it will consider a different route for the robot… Fumiya Tanabe, an expert on nuclear safety… said the findings show that both the preparation for and the actual decommissioning process at the plant will likely prove much more difficult than expected. “We have few clues on the exact locations, the sizes and the shapes of the nuclear fuel debris,” he said. “The planned investigation by the robot needs a rethink. Work to decommission the plant will require even more time.”

CNET, Feb 3, 2017: High radiation levels at Fukushima reactor is bad, bad news — Time to reconsider that trip to the east coast of Japan. A containment vessel at the destroyed Fukushima No. 1 power plant has reached off-the-chart radiation levels, reported the Japan Times… Experts believe that escaped melted fuel can account for the spiked reading.

    2. It is spelled "Good Bye". This is not to be confused with "by" as in, "I took a swim BY the nuclear power plant." Nor is it to be confused with "bi-" as, "After my swim, I saw a BIsexual man riding his BIcycle while looking through my BInoculars." Ack! Why do I bother?

meaning that, to a Cruel World, oceanic nuclear reactor = good

    2. Sadly, radiation is as toxic to all other life as well as humans. In fact the Pacific marine life, already contaminated from the past 7 years of continual leakage spewing from the disaster site, will go first.

    3. Graeme Pedersen, I cannot agree more. I'd like to leave the world to more thoughtful, intelligent creatures. If we could engineer a whale with an elephant with opposable thumbs and vocal chords — oh, and an octopus, because having an extra hand is always a good idea, but six extra hands would be way, way better. Just imagine!

  6. This is the scariest thing I have ever read. The fish are already contaminated. How long before the West Coast of the US is destroyed by this? I cannot believe these people haven't figured out a way to fix this in 6 years! We need to know how many people in Japan, have radiation poisoning. It has to be a lot, over the last 6 years.

  11. Is there anything worth pursuing in the thought of building a multi-hulled type of container around the reactor(s) that are compromised so as to create a vessel for it/them so that even if they fall/break away the newly created vessel might contain the leaking materials? (Like with oil ships with multiple hulls.) I have read much about and seen many museums presentations on the power of vessels - containers throughout human history. And, there are several homes on the Long Island shore in the South Hampton area on the Dunes that are designed to close up like vessels and float in the event of massive waves and damage - it is not a new concept to highbrow architecture on the ocean front.

  12. Sadly, there are nuclear power plants that have no radiation byproducts. GE has built a nuclear reactor that has a fission reactor on the inside, and a fusion reactor on the outside - which is fueled by the fission reactor. GE was told to "stand down" on this design. Why? Apparently the Central Bank will make more money on the insurance claims from current reactor design failures. If you want to see a working model of the 'clean energy' reactor - look at the Sun, it has fission and fusion. Fukushima is only a focal point of world catastrophies, planet earth has been assaulted by industry and geoengineering for the last 70 years - there is no recovery. As much as I despise Ex Vice Pres Gore, he is right about the world eco system 'past the tipping point' - if you doubt this, try and understand why those supposed aircraft contrails won't dissipate, like water vapor should, no, these trails persist for months. What good does knowing do? No one can change the fact that by 2025, 1 in 2 babies born will be autistic. Look at the statistics. Humanity is coming to an end - and no amount of prepping will help one bit. We're toast kids. Enjoy each day as if it is your last, soon it will be. I love my grandkids, but they will never have the chance to have their own families. Man has fallen again - to Greed.

  14. It will take several hundred thousand years for this to be righted by nature in the mean time we are all going to die a slow death....Man has gotten out of touch with nature and has destroyed us all in their arrogance to make shit to kill others...And some people are saying that this didn't happen.yea right....This world is in a sad state of affairs....May God bless and keep our souls from much suffering from he after affects of man's stupidity....And just FYI all.power plants were built on fault lines close to main water supplys...And everyone wondering why there is no cure for.cancer or why they got cancer it's in our food water and air people....

  15. They can not let this thing fall into the ocean!!!

Radiation is penetrating. The only thing that will stop it is several feet of earth or concrete.

Outrageous solution: Evacuate a deep underground cavity/cave on the inland side of the reactors deep enough to shield workers from radiation. Implement a system of explosives that will allow the reactors to fall towards land, into the cavity. A second set of explosives will be slightly further inland and cover the fallen reactors in several feet of earth. Yes, we are talking a very deep cavity, but with today's engineering, it should be possible!

  18. OK folks, "Friend of a nuclear physicist" is full of crap. They claimed GE had built a radiation free nuclear reactor using a combination of fission and fusion. No they didn't. Nobody has ever made a fusion reactor. They do not exist. Neither do commercially viable liquid thorium reactors or salt reactors. All we really have are the dirty fission reactors. If you want better energy, try solar since it is the cheapest power on the planet now.

  19. False. Fake news (click bait) for the ad revenue. You might try some actual fact checking. Yes it's a terrible mess. No it is not falling into the ocean.

  20. pay no attention to the actual cause of this disaster... the stuxnet virus, which stopped the multiple redundant safety systems from operating. even locking out the backup generators brought to the site. dont consider the magna BSP :(cameras)? that actually exploded in the non fueled reactor!! false flag on the order of 911... thanks mossad!
