I learned a new term from Rick Wiles of TruNews today - news nazi.
It fits Kim Hill perfectly, right through from her notorious 2003 interview with John Pilger through to the present day.
She personifies the "new style" whereby the ego of the presenter is more important than the information.
Today she interviewed epidemiologist, Prof. Raina MacIntyre.
First, Prof. MacIntyre. It took me just one answer to a question for me to ascertain that there might be a certain degree of disinformation here - or making things up as she went along. When asked why we are not seeing children being affected her answer struck me as a tad disingenuous. She claimed that older people are more susceptible to infection because their immune systems are in decline whereas young children, once they get out of infancy are less susceptible to infection than others. This struck me as slightly counter-intuitive and contrary to what I know so I looked. Her contention is contradicted by just this one piece of research (quite apart from commonsense and generations of parents' experience.

The print media
The search brought up several articles, mostly from newshub.co.nz (previously TV3) and stuff.co.nz (The Dominion and the Press with some minor publications)
I have lost all expectation of the print media in this country but at least they do reprint articles from other sources.
Radio NZ - the national broadcaster Although one would have thought that somewhere across the two search engines that articles from the national broadcaster, Radio New Zealand might have been thrown up in the search. First off, I have to point out in a news environment dominated by two organisations as well as television (TVNZ and Newshub) Radio New Zealand is supposed to play the role of a public service broadcaster *** This is what Radio NZ thinks you ought to know about the world around you. It is all basically a combination of village politics, state propaganda aimed at promoting a government globalist agenda.
For a globalist organisation Radio NZ is extremely parochial. I was told few years ago0 that the official policy line was to publish stories about global warming if they have a parochial,New Zealand angle. Despite the fact articles about even the Antarctica (and presumably of interest to New Zealandrs) are like hens' teeth and the whole thing has to be linked with a large dose of hopium and "what are we going to do". So now that the news is all bad - and you have to be a special sort of stupid to think there is anything to 'hope' for except for a vain and unjustified hope that the Paris accord targets are going to be met and thus save capitalist civilisation - Radio NZ is ignoring the whole thing. Based on what I have observed over the past 8 years I am not in the least surprised that the policy of Radio New Zealand is to black out the most important story on the planet (unless you think that the survival of the species is something of less import than what the village parliament is doing) They've made a good job of ignoring the whole question and now that the bad news is inescapable they are making an even better job of it! The last mention (apart from a shameful item from Nine-to-Noon saying that the Antarctic is not melting like the Arctic) is this item - from back in 2016.

It would not be an exaggeration in my mind to conclude that RNZ's main role is to propagandise a world that does not exist any longer and to totally ignore the most important stories on the planet and to generally pull the wool over people's eyes and keep them in a state of ignorance and unknowing.

sharemarkets recorded the worst year in 2018 since the financial
crisis a decade ago.
In
the United States, the Dow Jones suffered the worst December since
1931.
Geopolitical
issues and controversy over Brexit are to blame.
Principal
at investment advisory MyFiduciary, Chris Douglas, said he's not sure
if January would be as rocky as last month.
He
said despite the rough end to last year, the fundamentals were still
strong, especially for the local sharemarket.
"High
quality investments, high quality companies who continue to excel
well - they should continue to deliver for investors," he said.
Mr
Douglas said KiwiSavers should take a long-term view and ride out the
short-term blips.
"In
many ways, it is good for investments - it is good to have these
periods of markets declining," he said.
US
President Donald Trump has blasted the Federal Reserve describing it
as the "only problem" for the US economy, as top officials
discussed a growing rout in stock markets.
To
say that I am disgusted would be a gross understatement.
It
underlines why I have lost interested in NZ politics. It is totally
irrelevant.
I expect this behavour from the corrupt National Party.It is the response of media and naive people who swallow everything hook, line and sinker and can't even remember a week back.

done Radio NZ for doing your part in burying the real part of the
story of Jami-Lee Ross and “moving on”when the real issues of
corruption go unmentioned and JLR who may or may not be suffering
from a nervous breakdown.
What
a narrow-minded, horrid little country that can ape the worst aspects
of the Democrat Party and Theresa May’s fascist Britain.
Reading
between the lines it looks as if the government is COLLUDING with the
National Party.
In

National
defends handling of woman's complaint against Jami-Lee Ross
The
National Party president is defending his handling of a complaint
laid against former National MP Jami-Lee Ross.
This
comes as Opposition leader Simon Bridges promises to look into
workplace and internal party practices to ensure women feel safe.
After
unleashing a volley of allegations against Mr Bridges and National
last week, Mr Ross was reportedly taken into mental health care over
the weekend.
He
denies claims against him of harassing and bullying four women, but
has apologised to Katrina Bungard, a candidate for National in
Manurewa last year.
Mr
Ross admits he did not treat Ms Bungard well during a local body
campaign his wife was involved in.
In
2016, National Party president Peter Goodfellow and a woman who
complained about Mr Ross' behaviour struck an agreement to resolve
the situation.
On
his way into National's weekly caucus meeting today, Mr Goodfellow
denied using a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and defended his
handling of the complaint.
"We
haven't used any NDAs. That matter was a private matter and they
wanted confidentiality, so they both agreed that it would be kept
confidential," Mr Goodfellow said.
"That's
the only instance that I'm aware of in my time as president that
we've had an issue like that and it's certainly the only time that
the parties have requested confidentiality."
When
asked why Mr Ross was allowed to run for election in Botany last year
given the earlier complaint about his behaviour, Mr Goodfellow said
the matter was simple.
"It
was a matter that was raised by a couple of people and was dealt with
- and actually to the satisfaction of the parties," he said.
"We
acted quickly and helped them to resolve the differences and move
on."
Mr
Goodfellow said he did not later tell Mr Bridges, despite the
National Party leader's plans to promote Mr Ross within the caucus.
"That
was an issue that had been dealt with at the time - so no."
Mr
Bridges defended his handling of the leak inquiry, and the subsequent
naming of Mr Ross, saying he has made the right calls for the right
reasons in "difficult circumstances".
"My
priority now of course is those who have been hurt - including
Jami-Lee Ross," he said.
Mr
Bridges was asked what he knew about Mr Ross' current situation and
what happened over the weekend.
"I
didn't know about that until after the event," he said.
"I've
been given some second hand accounts but look I wouldn't comment on
them."
Nor
would Mr Bridges comment when asked if he was concerned someone else
in the National Party had been involved in Mr Ross reportedly being
committed to a mental health facility.
"No
I'm not, I think this is a matter... for the relevant authorities,
whether that be police ... they can answer as they see appropriate."
Mr
Goodfellow said he only found out about Mr Ross' mental health issues
very recently, while Rodney MP Mark Mitchell said he checked in with
Mr Ross about three weeks ago.
"It
was purely a welfare check to make sure that he was actually going to
be okay," Mr Mitchell said.
"Actually
my focus too has been making sure that Lucy his wife and their kids
are supported as well."
Mr
Bridges has ordered an inquiry to make sure women are feeling safe in
the workplace.
"A
number of people, a number of women have been affected here.
"And
so I'm going to make sure that I talk to parliamentary services this
week, to make sure women feel absolutely safe in the workplace and
they feel they can confidently come forward on all matters.
"I
also want to make sure that we are doing the same in the party in
terms of volunteers, candidates, staff - that we are getting
independent advice to make sure we've got the best systems and
processes."
It
was unlikely the findings of the internal review would be made
public, Mr Bridges said.
Female
MP sent abusive text to Jami-Lee Ross
A
text believed to have been sent to Jami-Lee Ross in August by a
female MP that Mr Ross had a relationship with has been released
today.
The
text - released on the same day that the National Party said it would
review its culture - includes a slew of abuse and personal insults
about Mr Ross' appearance and personality. Last
week several women accused Mr Ross of bullying and harrassment.
Mr
Ross has admitted to an affair with a fellow MP and apologised to a
woman he admits he behaved inappropriately towards during a local
body campaign his wife was running in.
The
text sent in August was 61 words long. The message - along with other
texts - was provided to RNZ by a supporter of the Botany MP with his
permission.
Checkpoint
has chosen not to release the exact words of the entire text out of
concern for the wellbeing of both MPs. It is not clear what prompted
the message.
However
it was sent to Mr Ross at 1:19am on a Saturday morning and concluded
by saying: "You deserve to die".
National
Party leader Simon Bridges announced today he was seeking independent
advice on workplace and party practices to ensure women felt safe.
But
Mr Bridges said he did not believe National had a culture problem.
Mr
Ross, who was taken into a mental health facility at the weekend, and
conceded on Friday he had not been a good husband, apologising for
the hurt he had caused.
Mr
Bridges and his deputy Paula Bennett both declined to be interviewed
today
Weasel
words from the New Zealand Government on RNZ coverage of climate
change
About a month ago a small group of us put in a complaint about Radio New Zealand's lack of cover on climate change.
At least one person was quite satisfied by the weasel words that came back rejecting our complaint on a technical ground so we wrote to the ministers of broadcasting (who has since been sacked) and Minister for Climate Change (sic).
The response came back today. Nothing I could say could prepare me for the shock and total lack of surprise.
It's not as if we had a dire climate emergency is it? Minister, Chris Faafoi writes back with such as sense of urgency as if I was writing to him about my missing cat.
If you didn't know what we are up against in a government that pays nothing more than lip service to climate change (while denying the reality of abrupt climate change) here you are.

it is important a broad range of subjects are presented – including

ourselves and our stories reflected in our audio-visual content
across media platforms, and that the issues of the day are covered in
depth. Government's commitment as part of Budget 2018 of $15 million

from an international study are warning that Earth is at risk of
entering a hothouse climate that could lead to global average
temperatures of up to five degrees and sea levels rising more than 10
metres.
Lead
researcher, Professor Will Steffen from Australian National
University has lead an international study on global warming.

Quite how you can be "fighting for facts" when you're lying is beyond me.

Michael
Mann, the distinguished professor of atmospheric science at
Pennsylvania State University, is famous for his 'hockey stick curve'
showing sharply increasing global temperatures since 1900.
He
was also involved in the 2009 ‘climategate’ scandal - the
unauthorised release of more than 1000 emails from the climatic
research unit at the University of East Anglia, many of them private
correspondence to and from Mann, which critics said proved dissenting
voices on climate change were being silenced.
Prof
Mann has been the target of threats and there have been about a dozen
investigations of his work, which have exonerated him every time.
The
author of several books, his most recent is The
Madhouse Effect,
which features cartoons by Pulitzer Prize-winning political
cartoonist Tom Toles.
It
portrays the "intellectual pretzels" into which denialists
must twist logic to explain away clear evidence that man-made
activity has changed our climate.
Climate
change “contrarians”, Mann says, like to portray themselves as
sceptics but are anything but.
“Scientists
are the real sceptics. You question a new result, something that’s
unusual. We apply scrutiny to all sides of the problem - that’s
different from simply rejecting mainstream science based on flimsy
arguments that don’t hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.
“When
you present anti-science to a journal and it gets sent out to leading
scientists, of course they’re going to say ‘this is junk, this
doesn’t even pass the smell test’.
Too
many contrarians or climate change deniers present themselves as
sceptics but they’re not, Mann says. A sceptic is equal-sided,
questioning their findings, at least as much as people's.
True
scepticism, he says, is ‘the self-correcting machinery of science.”
That
global warming caused by burning fossil fuels is incontrovertible, he
says.
“There
is as widespread and solid a consensus on that as there is on the
theory of gravity and yet you don’t see when a new exoplanet is
discovered many light years away, you don’t interview a space
physicist along with a member of the flat earth society.”
Mann
says he has had no choice but to become increasingly political.
Trump
administration officials have asked the Centres for Disease Control
and Prevention to avoid phrases such as “evidence-based”.
“To
them that is a politically-loaded term. We’re now in an environment
where simply advocating for a fact-based discourse is portrayed as
political.”
Despite
the current political climate in the US he remains cautiously
optimistic.
“I
definitely think we can rise to this challenge. It’s become a more
uphill challenge.”
The
Paris [climate change agreement was a good start but the job is far
from done, he says. And even with 1 degree of warming “dangerous
climate change has already arrived.” Which is why he’s fighting
for primacy of facts.
“You
fight back, in my view, because the stakes are too great. This isn’t
about us, it isn’t just about the scientific community this is
really a debate over whether or not were going to allow science to
inform this discussion about potentially the greatest threat we face
as a civilisation."
