H7N9 bird flu could develop into pandemic
Japanese
health officials say the bird flu virus spreading in China could
develop into a worldwide pandemic.

The
National Institute of Infectious Diseases has released an assessment
of the H7N9 avian influenza. The assessment is based on reports of
the spread of human infections and characteristics of the virus.
The
officials said they cannot rule out the possibility that the outbreak
in China will result in a pandemic. They said human-to-human
infections have yet to be confirmed, but that the virus has been
adapting to become more infectious for humans
