1 May, 2012

IRAN – Iran’s first nuclear power plant was connected at almost full capacity to the national power grid on April 28, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported, citing Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, who heads the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization. The 1,000-megawatt Bushehr plant is generating 940 megawatts, Abbasi-Davani said, according to the official IRNA report.

And now confirmation of this story from Iran's Fars News Agency

Bushehr N. Plant Adds 940MW of Electricity to National Grid

Iran's first nuclear power plant in the Southern port city of Bushehr is generating and sending 940 megawatts of electricity to the national power grid, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoun Abbasi announced on Monday

30 April, 2012

"940MW of nuclear-generated electricity has been sent to the national grid," Abbasi said, adding that the Bushehr nuclear power plant had produced 730MW of electricity since February and Iranian experts succeeded in boosting its capacity to 940MW now.

He reiterated that the progress was made after Iranian experts and engineers managed to conduct numerous experimental tests based on the power plants' standards.

In 2011 Iran started using 500MW of nuclear-generated electricity, half the nominal capacity of the Bushehr power plant.

Earlier, an Iranian Energy Ministry official had announced that Bushehr power plant would reach its nominal power generation capacity after the operation of the second phase of the plant in early summer.

Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said in 2011 that the first phase of the plant was functioning at the capacity of 500 megawatts, and noted that the second phase would be fully operational in mid 2012.

Iran held a ceremony in September to mark the preliminary launch of the Bushehr plant.

The facility operates under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

PS.
According to this report the Bushehr nuclear power plant has been open since February.

However, this is a slap-in - the - face for the West that despite sanctions and all the sabre-rattling that Iran can quietly announce to the world that it has opened its first nuclear power plant.

No wonder they don't want to report it!
