Large quake shakes Christchurch

25 May, 2012

A 5.2 magnitude quake has struck in Christchurch.

GeoNet initially reported the quake to be 10km deep and 20km east of Christchurch.

A number of Christchurch residents took to Twitter immediately after the shake, with many said was the biggest they'd felt 'in a long time'.

Orion have confirmed there are now power outages as a result of the quake.

There are no reports of major damage, however New Brighton library has been evacuated so that it can be inspected for damage.

It is also understood the CBD Red Zone has been shut down.

This is breaking news – more to follow.
