The anti-Syrian March 14 alliance has said Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati must be held accountable for the bombing in Beirut, calling for his resignation.

The intelligence chief of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces, General Wissam al-Hassan, is reported to be among those killed in the blast. He had recently uncovered an Israeli spy cell in Lebanon.

The anti-Syrian group has also accused Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of orchestrating the attack and has demanded the expulsion of Syrian ambassador to Lebanon. This is while the Syrian government was among the first countries to condemn the bombing as a "cowardly" move.

Meanwhile, the Iranian foreign minister has underlined the importance of unity among all groups and maintaining caution in the current sensitive situation of the region.

Lebanese government is to hold an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the Friday's deadly bomb blast.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Jamal Wakim, professor at the Lebanese International University, to further discuss the issue.
