But if I had told you a year ago (or six months) ago that we would all be under lockdown and could be arrested for a solitary walk on the beach you might have said the same.

The secret locations of US nuclear weapons hidden in Europe have been revealed in a NATO document.

A draft report for the NATO parliamentary assembly's defence and security committee seen by AFP gave details of six air bases in Europe and Turkey where it said the US stores 150 nuclear weapons, specifically B-61 gravity bombs.

The news comes amid fears of a new nuclear arms race in Europe, as a landmark Cold War treaty between Moscow and Washington is on the brink of collapse.

The accidental publication prompted Belgian MPs to demand answers from Prime Minister Charles Michel's government.

Green MP Samuel Cogolati said the report confirmed the 'open secret' that US nuclear weapons were stationed at the Kleine-Brogel air base in northern Belgium.

'We demand a fully transparent debate - we must stop this lying and put an end to this hypocrisy,' he told AFP.

A section of the draft report by Canadian senator Joseph Day, refers to a total of 'approximately 150 nuclear weapons' stored at Kleine-Brogel in Belgium, Buechel in Germany, Aviano and Ghedi-Torre in Italy, Volkel in the Netherlands and Incirlik in Turkey.

The report, titled 'A New Era for Nuclear Deterrence? Modernisation, Arms Control, and Allied Nuclear Forces' was written in April and then amended last week to remove the detailed references to the air bases.

The information appears to come from an annual paper on US nuclear forces in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which gives details of the reported locations of all American nuclear warheads.

The United States is one of three atomic powers in NATO, along with Britain and France, and although the nulcear threat is a key part of its deterrence strategy, the alliance routinely refuses to discuss it in detail.

The alliance distanced itself from the report, with an official stressing that it was 'not an official NATO document'.

An official said the alliance would not comment on nuclear matters.

'The document quoted is a draft report by parliamentarians of NATO countries, who come together under the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.'

A spokesman for Belgian Defence Minister Didier Reynders refused to comment.

In the late 1980s a Belgian minister acknowledged the presence of US nuclear weapons at Kleine-Brogel, which lies some 90 km (55 miles) northwest of Brussels, near the Dutch border.

But no details have been given before of the number of warheads or how they could be used.

The report says the B-61 bombs can be carried by 'both US and Allied dual-capable aircraft', though they can only be used with the authority of the US president.

NATO's 'nuclear sharing' policy has long been controversial. Critics say it breaches the 1970 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The B-61, produced from 1968, is a 'dial-a-bomb' with a variable yield of between 0.3 and 340 kilotons.

Weighing just 700lbs (320kg) in its basic configuration, it can be carried by any NATO bomber or strike fighter, including the F-15, F-16, Eurofighter Typhoon, F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.

US Envoy to NATO Says Turkey Will Lose F-35 Jets If S-400 Deal with Russia Goes Ahead

Washington and its allies have urged fellow NATO member Ankara not to install the S-400 system, warning that otherwise the US will stop Turkish forces from flying and developing its F-35 stealth jets.

The US outlined that the instalment of the S-400 would allow the system to learn how to recognize F-35s, which are built to avoid tracking by enemy radars and heat sensors, warning that there will be consequences if Turkey finalizes the deal.

“Everything indicates that Russia is going to deliver the system to Turkey and that will have consequences. There will be a disassociation with the F-35 system, we cannot have the F-35 affected or destabilized by having this Russian system in the alliance,” Kay Bailey Hutchison, the US ambassador to NATO, said in Brussels.

However, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Ankara will proceed with the S-400 purchase despite the concerns of allies.

“We will hopefully start to receive the S-400 systems we purchased from Russia next month,” Erdogan told members of his AK Party in parliament. “Turkey is not a country that needs to seek permission or bow to pressures. The S-400s are directly linked to our sovereignty and we will not take a step back.”

The United States offered Turkey, which produces parts of the F-35s fuselage, landing gear and cockpit displays, the more expensive Patriot anti-missile defence system. It then offered them a discount, yet the US wasn’t able to deliver the Patriots quickly. Turkey also says that NATO allies have not helped it during times of heightened security concerns, and it, therefore, had to seek alternatives, and Russia came into the picture.

Washington also warned Ankara that it will face US sanctions over the agreement with Moscow. However, NATO defence ministers, who will meet for two days in Brussels beginning on Wednesday, are not planning to formally raise the issue.

“It’s not over until it is over, but so far Turkey has not appeared to retract from the sale,” Hutchison said. “The consequences will occur, we don’t feel there’s a choice in that.”

Turkey previously said it would take the necessary measures to avoid complications, and proposed to form a joint working group with Washington to assess concerns. It has said US officials have yet to respond to the offer. Erdogan is expected to discuss the issue with US President Donald Trump at the G20 summit in Japan later this week, and finding a solution around S-400 will be one of the topics of the talk, Reuters reported.

General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. is the 19th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation's highest-ranking military officer, and the principal military adviser to the President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council.  He has cancelled his planned visit with NATO because the situation in the Middle East with Iran is deteriorating and something "grave" is believed to be coming.

In the meantime, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Acting Secretary of Defense Shanahan are on Capital Hill today, and will be briefing lawmakers on developments. At 1:30 PM, the full membership of the US House of Representatives will receive a closed-door (Classified) Briefing.  At 2:45, the full membership of the UNited STates Senate will receive its closed-door (Classified) Briefing. 

When any Presidential Administration gives a classified briefing to the full membership of Congress, it indicates the matter is extremely serious.   Congress only gets such briefings if there are indications it may be called upon to grant Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) or (worse) make a declaration of war.   THAT is how serious things are right now with Iran.

Another indication of exactly how serious the threats are coming out of Iran: Acting Secretary Shanahan made known to lawmakers today that the United Kingdom is "ready to help its allies against Iran."

CYBER THREATS: U.S. INFRASTRUCTURE

One item to be disclosed to Congress this afternoon is Covert Intelligence about Iranian plans to launch cyber attacks against U.S. Infrastructure here at home!  Without disclosing the nature of the intelligence, this web site URGES Americans to have at least one month supply of emergency food, water, and any medicines that folks may need to SURVIVE should there be a disruption to our supply chain here at home.   Other suggested "Preps" can be found on this list (HERE).

DIRECT THREATS

As most of you know, for 15 years I worked with the FBI, my final five years (2003-2008) with the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF).   I was granted full operational authority by the Office of Intelligence at FBI Headquarters in Washington, to engage in "extra-territorial" operations, and was tasked to engage in operations involving National Security, battling Terrorism,  and Foreign Counter-Intelligence overseas.   When my work took me outside the US, it was coordinated with the CIA and other agencies, but I did NOT work for the CIA.  

In that role, I developed relationships with Intelligence people from foreign governments,  Some were in the military of their country, others in their country's version of our CIA.  Most were in their country's law enforcement.   I maintain those relationships to this very day and as such, I get information that others do not.

From those relationships, I am able to tell you that in the very recent past (days) the US intercepted communications in which Iran ordered Hezbollah to launch attacks against Americans.

The United States has made it explicitly clear to Iran that if they -- or their Proxies -- engage in actions harmful to Americans, our Interests, or to our Allies, the US will respond with severe measures.

ECHO CHAMBER

Alas, Iran is suffering from its own echo chamber about how tough and powerful they are. They have no clue at all what they face. They cannot even IMAGINE what they face.

A U.S. strike against Iran is simply a matter of math. How many missiles do they have that ***MAY*** intercept ours? Once those interceptors are fired, how long does it take to reload the Iranian launch tubes?

Then all we have to do is fire more missiles than they can intercept, and fire a whole slew of additional missiles once their initial launch tubes are empty.

A first strike done along these lines could take out a number of painful targets - like civilian power grid, TV, Radio stations, plus some crucial infrastructure to make life miserable like certain railway and/or highway interchanges, key economic targets like certain oil/gas pipelines or storage facilities and, of course, certain military assets -- and be over and done in less than 30 minutes.

Just select the targets and do the math. Need 500 inbound missiles at the same time? Send fifty Destroyers/Guided Missile cruisers to all launch ten each. Need 1,000 inbound? Have those ships fire twenty missiles each.

Need more than that? No problem, send twenty five B-52's or B-1b Lancers to fire air-launched cruise missiles as the ships fire.

It's just math. We have the delivery ability. They do not have the defensive ability to overcome our delivery ability. It's that simple.

Of course, much of Iran's missile ability is presently deep underground and many people seem to think this is somehow a soruprise to the US.   It is not.

We know where all their underground bases are. ALL OF THEM. 

You see, the one thing that Iranians have in common with all other people is . . . . they can be bought. And we have the cash to buy them.

We have infiltrators in EVERY branch of the Iranian military and on EVERY base. ALL OF THEM!

Iran has no secrets from us. None at all.

As for them firing thousands of missiles at our ships, those missiles are useless because we know how to jam them. ALL of them.

"Powerful" Iran had to fight Iraq for eight years before both sides called it a stalemate and stopped.

We in the U.S. are not an Iraq. We have one-hundred-thousand times the firepower. Never mind the technology.

Can Iran inflict some harm?  Yes.  Will it matter in the big picture? No.

Must we here in the USA prepare to encounter some of that harm?  Yes. 

Are most of us prepared?  NO.   This is a problem. 

Libya re-descends into chaos

Recent developments in Libya have put the focal point of the international media back on the war-torn country. As we will see, there are many crucial omissions from the mainstream assessment of Libya’s descent into further chaos.

Libya is back in the news again. At the beginning of this week, a warplane attacked Tripoli’s only functioning civilian airport, Mitiga airport. The airstrike was allegedly delivered by forces loyal to Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar, the Libyan National Army (LNA). The timing of the attack appears to have coincided with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ visit to the city, who eventually left Libya “with a heavy heart and deeply concerned.”

Between 2,800 and 3,400 people have fled the fighting around Tripoli so far, with at least 47 reportedly dead and over 180 others injured, including both civilians and pro-government (GNA) fighters.

Originally, UN-backed talks were scheduled for 14-16 April this year, but this recent fighting has called all of that into question. So much so, that US forces have been withdrawn temporarily due to “security conditions on the ground.” Announcing that US troops will be withdrawing from a North African nation temporarily barely seems to attract even the most basic questions from the mainstream media, including the much-needed “why are US troops still in Libya?”

Still, Washington’s withdrawal from Libya may lead the way for other players to take control. As it stands, Libya has hardly been a priority of the Trump administration, who appears to have given an unofficial green light for other players to attempt to clean up the mess.

Interestingly, if Libya were talked about more openly and not in the reactionary way employed by the mainstream media, this fighting would have been foreseen a long time ago and ample warning would have been given. In early March, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) reported that during January and February of this year, Haftar had managed to take control of two-thirds of Libya with an eye for taking Tripoli, the country’s capital. By that stage, he had already seized most of Libya’s oil fields and major population centers. By early 2017, Haftar had already emerged as a major leader in eastern Libya, giving him control of about 60 percent of Libya’s oil supply.

According to MEMO, the pro-Haftar forces were greeted by cheerful locals in almost every village and town they advanced into (though this is not necessarily a claim we should accept outright). MEMO’s thesis was essentially that the changing dynamics in the local politics of Libya could entail that Haftar would look to take Tripoli in the near future, but that it was unlikely to happen any time soon. Following this, the last major area to conquer that would likely put up any meaningful resistance is Misrata, 300 km away from Tripoli.

Instead of having an open discussion about the true nature of the situation in Libya throughout 2019, what we get from the media is a sort of “Libya is descending into chaos once again” knee-jerk reaction, followed by the usual “America can stop it” type pro-imperialist nonsense. When we aren’t receiving this dishonest attempt to reassert American hegemony, we have to swallow the most ambitious of propagandised gibberish from the Guardian such as:

"The outcome could decide whether the country remains on a lengthy, UN-led path to a form of democracy that reunites the country’s long-divided institutions, or instead falls under a form of military rule similar to that in Egypt."

Which leads us to the real reason that the US will most likely want to re-involve itself into the North African nation: Russia.

In the wake of the recent clashes, Moscow vowed to use “all available means” to broker peace in the war-torn country, urging all sides to the violence “to avoid any actions that could provoke bloodshed and the death of civilians.”

While the US and other notable powers have blamed the fighting squarely on Haftar and his forces, Russia appears to have disagreed, blocking a security council statement initiated by the UK to condemn Haftar. While this will only further give the United States reason to cringe over its future grip over a North African nation abundant in oil, the hidden truth is that US once-upon-a-time backed Haftar to overthrow Gaddafi prior to his death in 2011. In fact, he was granted US citizenship having spent about two decades living in Langley (I am sure the proximity of his residence to the CIA headquarters is a sheer coincidence). Reportedly, Haftar even allowed the CIA to establish a base in the eastern city of Benghazi in the area under his control.

While the US and Russia are likely to be the two main powers discussed in respect of this recent fighting and the international response to these clashes, there are some other notable players who are not receiving the same amount of airtime they deserve. Don’t expect it to be headline news, but just before the offensive was launched Haftar had been in Saudi Arabia where he had met with King Salman. It turns out that Haftar’s forces sympathize with the same, radical Salafist strain of Islam that the Saudi Kingdom exports to the rest of the world like a commodity.

US foreign policy seems to follow this curious, ludicrous and frustrating cycle of violence and the corporate media continue to act clueless. The pattern seems to go something like this. One, the US backs a certain group, groups, or a dictator of sorts to act as its proxy army against a common enemy. Two, once said enemy has been overthrown, that proxy will either take up the reins or continue to wreak havoc on the country, or both. When that group has outlived its usefulness, the group’s ties to other distasteful foes, their crimes against humanity, or any associated allegation is brought out into the open and a demonization process begins which will eventually lead to another call for the US to intervene. The fact that the US intervened the first time around and singlehandedly contributed to the chaos is hidden from plain sight by the media or is just outright ignored.He also allegedly receives support from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and even France, who has quietly been carrying out air strikes on Haftar’s opponents (Chadian opposition fighters). Not only is France one of the major causes for the chaos that engulfed Libya in 2011 (it was, after all, a French Rafale jet that struck Muammar Gaddafi’s fleeing motorcade in Sirte, leading to his brutal murder) but it is still to this day, behind-the-scenes, continuing a meddling, interfering policy in Libya that sees clandestine operatives, advisers and special forces to assist Haftar’s aims. This is despite Haftar’s long list of alleged crimes. That being said, France still denies that it had any prior warning of the recent advancement by the LNA.

“Why is Libya so lawless?” The BBC once asked. We all know why, you just won’t report it accurately enough.

Under Gaddafi, Libya had the highest standard of living out of any country in Africa up until he was ousted by US-NATO backed forces. Its healthcare system was once the “envy of the region.” Following the removal of Gaddafi, Libya is the envy of nothing and no one, except for maniacal jihadists who have capitalized on the death and destruction left in the wake of the 2011 war.

The empowerment of jihadists in Libya was not just an unforeseen consequence of NATO intervention, nor was it because of the failure of NATO powers to help rebuild a stronger country. The presence of jihadist elements in order to overthrow Gaddafi was a specific ploy utilized by NATO countries who even oversaw their movements into the country so they could topple the Libyan leader. In early 2011, a Libyan rebel commander admitted his fighters included jihadists who fought against allied troops in Iraq. These fighters then fought under the banner of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), which only became established as an entity after the US invaded Iraq in 2003 in the first place. (AQI then became known as ISIS).

I could go on and on about this topic. Suffice it to say, any mainstream media op-ed calling on the US, or any Western power, to do more in Libya and to cease being “ambivalent” is a fraudulent piece of non-history and should not be treated as a credible geopolitical opinion.

Washington has done plenty in Libya and its surrounding region for decades. As Libyan political advisor Mohamed Buisieronce said: “The history of Libya is the history of the foreign powers who ruled Libya.”

The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, said that Ukraine plans to carry out a new passage of ships through the Kerch Strait with the involvement of international partners.

“This is, for us, fundamental. If we stop and retreat, Russia will actually fulfill its task of seizing the Sea of ​​Azov, presenting to the world certain new sea borders in the Black Sea, de facto legalizing the occupation of the Crimea,” he said in an interview with BBC Ukraine.

The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council stressed that this issue should not be delayed.

“We also offer our partners to take part in this passage from the Ukrainian Black Sea ports to the Ukrainian ports on the Azov coast,” added Turchinov.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, has just told about the preparation of a new passage for Ukrainian warships through the Kerch Strait.

Whether they choose to abide by the agreement to inform Russia beforehand and get cooperation as they did in the past, or not like they tried several weeks ago (which erupted into a shooting naval battle) is not yet known.

Secretary of the NSDC Alexander Turchinov said in an interview with the BBC .

“This is fundamental for us. If we stop and retreat, Russia will actually fulfill its task of seizing the Sea of ​​Azov, impose self-determined new sea borders in the Black Sea to the world, de facto legalizing the occupation of Crimea,” Turchinov said.

He stressed that if left to the mercy of fate the situation that unfolds around the Kerch Strait, if the Ukrainian sailors are not immediately released from captivity, then the civilized world will in fact recognize that Russia has the right to any aggression, to any changes in borders, and will not bear for that responsibility.

“Let's be honest - the Russian Federation has been condemned, but not punished,” the head of the National Security Council believes. In his opinion, sanctions against Russia should be significantly tightened, appropriate measures taken against the Russian fleet around the world, otherwise subsequent actions will be even more bloody and dangerous not only for Ukraine but also for other countries.

RUSSIA: The next passage of Ukrainian ships through the Kerch Strait, announced by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Alexander Turchinov earlier, will be considered as a new irresponsible provocation''-Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova

"This is just an announcement of a new provocation, which has the same provocative nature," the diplomat said. "It is absolutely irresponsible. It is only meant to make the situation worse."

"Many Ukrainian partners are trying to defuse the tensions in this situation, and are actually working on finding ways of de-escalation," Zakharova noted. "To make such a statement in the context of these attempts made by several states, including EU member countries, is to confirm that provocations are the calling card of the current Kiev regime."

Earlier today, Turchinov stated in an interview with the BBC that Ukraine has no plans to cease the passage of its military vessels through the Kerch Strait, and did not rule out the possibility of eliminating the Crimean Bridge. He added that Ukraine is ready to invite representatives of the OSCE, NATO and other international organizations to be present at the Ukrainian vessels.

On November 26, Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, endorsed President Pyotr Poroshenko’s decree on imposing a 30-day martial law in the Vinnitsa, Lugansk, Nikolayevsk, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkov, Chernigov, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as Ukraine’s territorial waters in the Sea of Azov. Initially, Poroshenko sought to impose martial law for 60 days, but this put into question holding the March presidential elections and sparked a public outcry.

The pretext for the decision to declare martial law was an incident in the Kerch Strait on November 25, when three Ukrainian warships, en route from Odessa to Mariupol, illegally crossed Russia’s state border, entered Russia’s territorial waters and started performing dangerous maneuvers.

Despite the repeated warnings and demands to stop, the Ukrainian vessels continued their way, forcing Russia to use weapons. All three Ukrainian ships were detained in the Black Sea. Three Ukrainian servicemen were slightly wounded and received medical assistance, and their lives are not under threat. A criminal case has been launched over the violation of Russia’s state border. Moscow slammed the incident as a provocation.

Twenty-four Ukrainian sailors have been detained in Russia until January 25, 2019.

(HT Analysis: In this one sentence, the government of Ukraine just gave Russia an actual reason to utterly smash Ukraine. When he said "destroy the [Kerch] Bridge" he killed his own country. If any single event is recorded in history as to how World War 3 began in Europe, THIS STATEMENT from Ukraine ought to be shown as the reason.   Completely retarded.  Utterly stupid.
