US Embassy in Turkey warned of a terror threat toward Americans in Istanbul and across the country

US Embassy in Turkey warns of terror threat against Americans

The statement urged US citizens to avoid crowds and keep a low profile in areas frequented by foreigners.

Al Monitor,

23 October, 2020

In a security alert issued Friday, the US Embassy in Turkey warned of a terror threat toward Americans in Istanbul and across the country.

“The U.S. Mission in Turkey has received credible reports of potential terrorist attacks and kidnappings against U.S. citizens and foreign nationals in Istanbul, including against the U.S. Consulate General, as well as potentially other locations in Turkey,” read the statement from the American embassy in Turkey’s capital, Ankara.

The statement urged US citizens to avoid crowds, keep a low profile and stay alert in locations frequented by Americans and other foreigners, including large office buildings or shopping malls. Consular services at US facilities across Turkey are temporarily suspended.

Authorities have blamed the Islamic State for a number of terror attacks on Turkish soil in recent years, including twin bombings near Ankara's main train station that killed more than 100 people in October 2015. In March 2016, a suspected IS suicide bombing killed four people, include two Americans, in Istanbul’s popular shopping district.

The Kurdistan Workers Party has also waged a decades-long insurgency in the country’s southeast and is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and European Union.

In 2013, an outlawed leftist group known as the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front took credit for a suicide bombing at the US Embassy in Ankara that killed a Turkish security guard and wounded several others.

Turkeys Planned Attack on

Armenia

A VISIT TO A TOWN OF PEOPLE BURIED ALIVE: ‘ONLY MOSCOW CAN SAVE US CHRISTIANS’

Gian Micalessin, writing in il Giornale – Translated from the Italian by Tom Winter

Fort Russ,

16 October, 2020

Martuni, Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) – In Martuni, devastated by bombs, the inhabitants live hidden in catacombs. “Europe won’t help, but Russia is slow.”

Martuni. It was first to be assaulted. The first to weep over the victims of the Azeri missiles. The first city of Nagorno Karabakh to be abandoned, as its inhabitants fled en masse toward Armenia. It is the city of lost men. Barely 400, perhaps fewer, are left of its 6,000. and it’s hard to find even the shadow of these few.

Martuni is a ghost town, asleep and silent. The City Hall, a sad, circular building in grey marble, floats in a sea of broken glass and debris. Its windows and portals are gon. In 20 days missiles and bombs have transformed all into a carpet of ruins. Everywhere around you cannot find a stone, piece of asphalt, or a tree that doesn’t bear the marks of shrapnel and explosions. Here and there, sticking out of yards and streets, are the threatening silhouettes of unexploded shells. And of the survivors, hardly a shadow. . . . Martuni’s ghosts peep slowly and cautiously out of a trap door. They climb up a ladder, stick out their heads, make a sign to wait. They are suspicious, afraid, bewildered. Prisoners of this miniature Stalingrad glare at anyone who can reveal their lair, put their shelters at risk, make their safety even more precarious. They keep you hanging there between the desert and the abyss for more than half an hour, then one jumps out. His name is Armen. He has the pallor of one who has not seen the light of the sun for days, and the hollow eyes of nights of sleeplessness.

I’m coming with you. I’ll show you what they have done to this city!” He pops us in a hurry, practically runs to the piazza. 20 paces later I get why the hurrying: The first mortar shell comes in, whistling 200 meters away. Another, and a third one come in a bit farther off. “This was my father’s house, says Armen, pointing at a mess of debris. “The missile hit it not quite 11 hours after the ‘cease-fire’. My dad, a 79 year old man, who never hurt anyone, was blown to bits in his bed.” Still running, Arman takes us back to the basement of the town hall. In the ruins of the city we do not meet a soul. “The women – he says – went to Armenia with the children. We men have received weapons and we alternate between the front and the shelters in town. Those who, like my wife, did not leave — to be close to those on the front line — live underground.”

Now we are back at the town hall. two stories under the glimmering and yellow light of bare lightbulbs, we make out the faces of women and the aged. They sit in silence on cots lined against a wall, midst water bottles, sacks of bread, baskets of potatoes, pomegranates, and tomatoes. A woman keeps crying, another with her face in her hands. Only Veniera, Armen’s wife, manages a smile.

“I don’t have kids — I could stay close to my husband and close to those who are fighting for their homeland. But I’m glad you came from Europe and Italy to tell about our despair”. I ask her if that’s enough. Veniera raises her eyes, smiles. “We are Christians like you, but from Europe we know we cannot expect much. If anyone will save us, it will be only Russia. This has always been the case in the past. I just wonder why it’s taking so long this time.”

Head of the parliamentary defense and security Committee IrakliSesiashvili said that the country's authorities have decided to ban the transit of weapons through its territory to Armenia and Azerbaijan. This is reported By Sputnik of Georgia.

He noted that both sides of the escalating conflict in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh region have accepted Georgia's position.

In addition, the MP stressed that the country calls for the cessation of hostilities and the settlement of the conflict through negotiations.

"Georgia has neutral positions regarding this conflict for obvious reasons, as we have special good-neighborly relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia," Sesiashvili concluded.

September 27Ministry of defense Azerbaijan has announced that it is launching a "counter-offensive operation" in response to the actions of the Armenian armed forces, which "shelled settlements on the line of contact in Karabakh."

The unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic reported that settlements, including the capital Stepanakert, were subjected to artillery fire.

As a result of military operations, there are civilian and military casualties on both sides. Martial law and mobilization have been declared in Karabakh and Armenia. Partial mobilization has been declared in Azerbaijan, and martial law has been imposed in some cities.

Spontaneous evacuation of civilians has started in Stepanakert

A spontaneous evacuation of civilians has begun in Stepanakert, a city in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. This is reported by the newspaper "Izvestia» with a link to its correspondent from the scene of events.

It is noted that people are being sent EN masse to the Armenian capital, Yerevan.

"They send them away just like that, they don't know any relatives there, but they say that they will be met there without fail. The authorities in Yerevan will organize it," the statement reads.

Some people are helped to leave by the police, stop hitchhikers and ask drivers to take strangers out of the city.

September 27 Ministry of defense Azerbaijan has announced that it is launching a "counter-offensive operation" in response to the actions of the Armenian armed forces, which "shelled settlements on the line of contact in Karabakh."

At a time of escalating conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Turkish authorities continue to make more and more resolute statements in support of Azerbaijan. Thus, Turkish foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara is ready to support Baku "both at the negotiating table and on the battlefield." Experts assessed the possibility of Turkey's military intervention in the Karabakh conflict and told what strategic goals the country's leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan pursues.

"For Ankara, the events in Nagorno-Karabakh are a window of opportunity to increase its own influence in the Caucasus»

Turkey views Azerbaijan as a "fraternal country" with common cultural, linguistic and ethnic roots. The two countries also have close trade ties, especially in the energy sector.

"It is a great strategic interest of Turkey, as well as any powerful regional player, to increase its geopolitical influence in neighboring regions, including those that are ethnically and culturally close," comments Dmitry Yegorchenkov, Director of the Institute for strategic studies and forecasts at the RUDN University. – Such an old, actually pan-Turkist idea, which was repeatedly expressed by both Mr. Erdogan and various representatives of his administration, has not disappeared from the political discourse of the country. We understand this very well, analyzing the Turkish official press.

Moreover, for Erdogan, the conflict that we are witnessing today is a window of opportunity for increasing his own influence in the Caucasus and promoting this pan-Turkist trend in his policy."

At the same time, according to the expert, open military intervention in the Karabakh conflict is not entirely in Turkey's interests. It can seriously affect the country's economy, in particular, the exchange rate of the national currency.

"However, this does not mean that Ankara will not use the well – known tools of hybrid intervention in one form or another, direct or explicit support for Azerbaijan through the media and through various informal non-state structures," Dmitry Yegorchenkov notes. – This strategy will be more natural for Turkey in this sense."

Despite the harsh rhetoric of President Erdogan, who does not hide that he took the side of Azerbaijan in this conflict, Turkey, nevertheless, will not cross the red line, according to Elena Suponina, adviser to the Director of the Russian Institute for strategic studies (RISS).

"These lines are drawn by the fact that Turkey is a member of NATO, and many members of this organization would not like to see the conflict in Karabakh escalate further," the expert continues. "Therefore, Ankara will have to look around at the positions of its colleagues in the Alliance."

On the other hand, Turkey is well aware that it can hurt Russia's interests in the region, Elena Suponina believes. Meanwhile, the country has an urgent need to maintain cooperation between Ankara and Moscow, which, despite some differences in the recent past, has nevertheless been well established on Syria, Libya and other issues. So on Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkey will still have to look back at others and this, of course, will deter President Erdogan.

As Alexey Makarkin, first Vice-President Of the center for political technologies, Professor at the Higher school of Economics, previously told MK, Erdogan's policy is aimed at strengthening Turkey's position in the Islamic world: "We see this policy already in several countries. In Syria, however, we are talking not only about creating a security zone against the Kurds, but also about the fact that Turkey supports some of the local Islamists there.

If we look at Libya, Ankara supports the Sarraj government in Tripoli against the government that relies on field Marshal Haftar's military. Turkey has played a key role in helping the government in Tripoli remove an immediate threat to its capital. Without Erdogan, it would have been impossible to change the military and political situation there.

And now Erdogan is extending his hand to Azerbaijan – there are also historical relations there, Dating back to 1918, when independent Azerbaijan appeared with Turkish support. By the way, at that time the British tried to counteract the offensive of Turkish troops on Baku, but it was unsuccessful. However, then after the defeat of the Ottoman Empire, the Turks still had to leave.

So historical analogies work here. Erdogan emphasizes that he is the heir to the tradition of the Ottoman Empire (whose Sultan was not only a secular ruler, but also a Caliph), and tries to distance himself from the legacy of Ataturk, although he does not completely succeed."

At the same time, according to Makarkin, an open military intervention does not look real. Moreover, there is a very strong opposition in Turkey, which will definitely oppose the country's direct intervention in the Karabakh conflict.

"The opposition won the mayoral elections in Ankara and Istanbul," the expert added. " it Often seems that Erdogan is the dominant figure in the country. However, this is not entirely true. The Turkish leader is voted for in villages and small towns, where the position of the local clergy often plays a key role. Moreover, Erdogan is quite a cautious politician. Rather, it follows a strategy of indirect actions - that is, more cautious and flexible. For example, in the same Syria, he is at war with Assad, with the Kurds, but at the same time he is negotiating with Moscow on the division of spheres of interest."

Many Western powers are also monitoring the situation in Karabakh with great concern. According to Alexey Makarkin, we should not forget that there are large Armenian diasporas in some of them, which also influence political decision - making.

"The United States will soon hold presidential elections, every vote counts," the expert said. "And Trump also doesn't really want to lose the votes of representatives of the influential Armenian community."

COVERT INTEL: GIGANTIC ESCALATION IN ARMENIA-AZERBAIJAN CONFLICT

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan keeps escalating in ways not thought possible.

COVER INTELLIGENCE says Russian President Vladimir Putin has formally asked Iran for permission to use air bases in their country, "to protect Armenia from Turkish aggression."

The fact that this request was even made is a GIGANTIC escalation.  It would see Russian military aircraft attacking Turks, likely within Armenia or in Azerbaijan, but direct conflict nonetheless.

Intel analysts say it is likely that Iran will agree and grant permission, but that has not yet taken place.

MORE . . .

President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Armenia) stated that he does not see a political solution to the conflict, and the only scenario is to inflict maximum damage on the enemy (the Azerbaijani Armed Forces).

As this situation worsens, it seems destined to drag-in major players and if that takes place, the war will widen in ways none of us can anticipate.

KILLED: 47 tanks, 36 unmanned aerial vehicles and 400 servicemen

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/killed-47-tanks-36-unmanned-aerial-vehicles-and-400-servicemen

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not going well for the aggressor, Azerbaijan.

According to reports coming out of the war zone, The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which began two days ago, led to really big losses for the Azerbaijani side. According to the data as of the evening of September 28, 2020, the losses of Azerbaijan have doubled; amount to 36 unmanned aerial vehicles, 47 armored vehicles (mainly tanks) and about 400 military personnel.

“Over the past two days of fighting, Azerbaijani troops have lost more than 400 people,” Deputy Commander of the Artsakh Defense Army Artur Sargsyan said at a press conference on 28 September. According to him, in addition to about 400 killed and wounded, the Azerbaijani side lost 47 tanks and armored vehicles, as well as 36 unmanned aerial vehicles. "By 17:00 the following account losses of the opponent: 36 UAV, 47 armored vehicles, more than 400 casualties," - Artur Sargsyan said "

Azerbaijan also suffered very serious losses of its air forces, in particular, it is known about four downed military helicopters and one downed military aircraft, which, as expected, was supposed to transfer paratroopers to the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh in order to work in behind enemy lines. Moreover, a day earlier it became known that the air defense systems of Armenia shot down 4 military helicopters of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, which indicates the fact that the blitzkrieg of Baku in Armenia's direction suffered a complete failure.

UPDATE 9:07 AM EDT --

According to the Armenian Unified Information Center, the following are the losses by Azerbaijan:

***** BULLETIN *****

UPDATED 9:13 AM EDT --

Azerbaijan is shelling the city of Vardenis, Armenia.  The war is no longer limited to Nagorno-Karabagh and this is no longer about “getting our lands back”... this is now an international conflict, and third parties could be dragged into it.

Since early morning the Azerbaijani side resumed large-scale offensive ops. TOS-1A heavy flamethrowers are being employed. The use of TOS, Smerch and other large-caliber systems changes the philosophy and the scale of mil ops, elevating them to the new level of escalation.

MoD warns that Armenian AF are compelled to use pieces of equipment and munitions designed to engage wide area targets, intended for large and indiscriminate destruction of manpower, and static and mobile property alike.

A civilian passenger bus is on fire in the Armenian town of Vardenis after being hit by an Azerbaijani military attack drone, Armenian Defense Ministry representative Artsrun Hovhannisyan said on social media.

Earlier the military spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan had said that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened gunfire across the Armenia state border at the Armenian Armed Forces military base in Vardenis, and also used air force against military positions.

Warfare Intensifies between Armenia - Azerbaijan; Other Nations Jumping in!

Overnight, warfare between Armenia and Azerbaijan intensified beyond belief.

Both sides have brought heavy armor, multiple Launch Rocket Systems, aircraft and thousands of additional troops into the fight.  Worse, outside nations, Israel, Turkey, Russia, and Iran,  are sending convoys of military gear to both sides indicating the fight is broadening very fast.

Israel and Turkey are supplying the aggressor, Azerbaijan, while Russia and Iran are supplying the victim, Armenia.

According to information from the Armenian side, the AZERBAIJANI GENERAL Mais Barkhudarov was captured.

Video from the capital of Armenia show Mig-29 fighter jets, flying low and fast toward the battle lines.

There are unconfirmed reports that Azerbaijan forces have captured the city of Fuzuli.

Other nations are already jumping-in to this ugly situation.

Israel has shown its character by sending plane loads of military gear (weapons) to Azerbaijan, via Turkey as indicated by the flight radar map below:

It is more than interesting to see these two countries working together since Turkey is ardently anti-Israel . . . . or is that just some kind of ruse?

By supplying Azerbaijan, Israel is squarely AGAINST the USA; an interesting thing for them to do since their little country allegedly cannot survive without Billions in welfare every year from the United States.

And the Israelis have been doing this for weeks  leading up to the ongoing fighting.  Pictured below is a plane from the Azerbaijan military, in Israel to pick up weapons!

Armenia protested sharply to Israel following the Azerbaijani army’s use of an Israeli-made suicide drone to attack an Armenian convoy during renewed fighting, which is one of the most violent rounds of hostilities since war ended in the region 10 years ago.

Do the Israelis think we don't watch what they do?  Do they take the USA completely for granted - or is it something else;  do they think they can act with impunity?  They're wrong.  Israel should stop biting the hand that feeds it.

The Turks are proving to be troublesome too. Below, video of Turkish F-16 fighter jets flying just feet away from Armenia's southern border.  The Turks are supporting Azerbaijan.

Officials in Armenia have directly stated that Turkish F-16's are actually involved in the fighting.  They claim Turkish air strikes hit the disputed territory yesterday, but this is not yet confirmed by outside parties.

What can be confirmed is that Turkey is violating Armenian territorial air space with military drone engaged in Recon as evidenced by this radar plot from yesterday:

And Turkey has been shuttling military cargo planes into Azerbaijan for WEEKS.  In fact, one recent military cargo plane shipment took place as the renewed fighting began as proven by this flight radar record:

Russia is shipping vast quantities of equipment into Armenia both from Russia and from inside Iran.

Azerbaijan began using Multiple Launcher Rocket Systems (MLRS) this morning . . .  but didn't hit anything . . .

Elsewhere, the Greek Parliament has decided to suspend talks with #zerbaijan after its military attack against Armenia.

As this conflict grows, the risk to the region and to the world grows with it.

 ***** BULLETIN *****

UPDATED 12:08 PM EDT --

Turkish F-16 fighters launched missile strikes on Armenia.

Turkey intervened in the military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and launched air strikes on the territory of Armenia, using its F-16 fighters. According to preliminary data, the strikes of Turkish fighters were deployed from the airspace of Azerbaijan, which means that combat aircraft were airlifted through the airspace of Georgia or neighboring Iran.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the use of Turkish combat aircraft, which means that now, in addition to actively monitoring the airspace of Azerbaijan, air defense systems will monitor Turkish airspace at a distance of 50 kilometers from the border, since the Turkish F-16s do not have long-range missiles.

At the moment, it is known that Armenia has raised its newest Su-30 fighters into the air, but the latter have so far been used to monitor the airspace and have not been used to launch missile strikes, however, the Armenian Defense Ministry did not rule out the use of combat aircraft to attack enemy forces ...

Today, Armenia has a fairly large number of air defense systems in service, and it is for this reason that the active involvement of the air forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey is not yet widespread.
