Swarm of quakes hit Tolaga Bay
Earthquake swarm rattles the Gisborne coastline, with GeoNet reporting six in less than an hour overnight.

A swarm of earthquakes shook the Gisborne coastline in less than an hour overnight.

The earthquake monitoring agency GeoNet reported the first at 1.13am, a 4.1-magnitude tremor centred 60km east of Tolaga Bay at a depth of 20km.

Two more followed close by within six minutes, measuring 3.2 and 3.9. GeoNet reported three more light to moderate quakes between 1.35am and 1.55am, all centred in the same relatively small area.
