New

Rt
Hon Winston Peters has revealed that the Security Intelligence
Service illegally raided the Fijian Democracy and Freedom movement in
Auckland last year, under the Terrorism Suppression Act at the behest
of Fiji’s military dictatorship.
Mr
Peters asked a series of questions in Parliament today about the
raid, which he says was done on the pretext of an alleged
assassination attempt on the Fiji regime leadership.
“The
Prime Minister and the Foreign Affairs Minister knew about this raid
and obviously gave their approval otherwise it would never have been
carried out.
“One
week after the raid Mr McCully was in Fiji ingratiating himself with
the Fiji military regime.
“It
appears that the Fijian connection knew everything because the leader
Frank Bainimarama held a press conference on it at the same time.”
Mr
Peters says despite the SIS claim of “credible evidence”, the
Government backed down when taken to the High Court by a member of
the Democracy and Freedom movement.
“After
the fictitious assassination attempt in Fiji the New Zealand
Government became ensnared in an attack on a peaceful group of people
who want democracy restored to their country.
“Messrs
Key and McCully have some explaining to do about their abuse of power
and the illegal activities of New Zealand’s spy agencies.
“The
acting Prime Minister’s response in the House today that it’s not
a matter of public interest and his refusal to answer questions was
arrogant and disgraceful,” says Mr Peters
