Poetry

Martin is a friend and a loyal follower of this blog.

"When I was younger I used write (a lot)

"In the 90's I stopped because I felt I had said all there was to say.Lately that has changed with what is going on with our climate and uber militarism. and the denialism that follow in their wake.

"I have have attached some recent pieces that I hope will cut to the now."

She’ll Be Right!

(on the brink of climate disaster, world war and Americas cup)

There is no depression in New Zealand.
Our banker leader met the Queen
And we’ll win the cup
What cup? Who cares?
Rugby world Cup, Americas Cup.

The Pacific isn’t being poisoned If we
don’t mention the war or Fukushima.
The icecaps won’t melt if
we cheer our team of rich white yachtsmen.
The earth won’t move if we’re
Not in Christchurch
And the water under my desk isn’t
3 years beyond its best by date.

The Second Coming Revisited

(after W.B. Yeats)

With tinsel atop their Christmas trees
The West eats and drinks and spends
Like there is no tomorrow
While below the oceans
Steel whales with tomahawks and tridents go

Through inland sea and down canals. 'round Good Hope
To hope at clockstrike 12 we don't go.

And sleepy hobbits slumber over Yuletide beers
The beast is now awake and, gathering its purpose
Slouches east past Bethlehem and on to Tehran.
Its' own season will gather the end
A second coming at last.

I Flew Under Your Radar

I flew under your radar
you didn't see it coming
you didn't see it go
The world you thought you knew
you didn't even know.

I flew under your radar
it wasn't hard to do
you helped me all the way
fast asleep while wide awake
you couldn't even say.

your coral, your ice
you never said a word
your crops, your seas
silence was all I heard.

I flew under your radar
not once did you turn
not once to change course.
and your radar is now useless,
your time is now up.
