Off-the-cuff from Guy McPherson

I'm sure that Guy won't mind me reproducing his comments. They are my sentiments entirely.

A 10 million barrel per day gap in crude oil

According to the Pentagon, by 2015 the world will face a 10 million barrel per day gap in crude oil relative to today's usage. American Empire is maintained ONLY by destruction of the landbase and wars for oil. It's difficult for me to imagine the empire will persist through 2015 in light of a sharp, never-ending decline in net energy. Yet my Facebook News Feed is filled with people who are certain (1) Obamney will keep the industrial economy going forever, and (2) this would be a good thing.

Never mind that the world's industrial economy drives 200 species to extinction every day, forces us deeper into human-population overshoot at the rate of >200,000 people per day, fouls more water and dirties more water every day, ratchets up climate chaos to the point of near-term human extinction. After all, Americans believe they DESERVE their smart phones and, with very few exceptions, they couldn't give a shit about the living planet or dead children in the Middle East and northern Africa.
