More on Turner News and Fukushima.....

This article from ENENews has appeared today.

It is an example of where I can definitely take issue with them. They quote a Wikipedia item that seems to me to be out of the picture.

The racist and holocaust denier, “Hal” Turner, seems to be definitely out of the picture.

Here is the introduction to Turnerradionetwork.com's website

"Welcome to the Turner Radio Network. As of December, 10, 2010, this web site is under new ownership. The former owner, radio host Hal Turner, was Ordered by United States District Court Judge Donald Walter, to divest himself of control or ownership of all websites after his conviction at a THIRD federal trial of "Threatening" federal officials. He is not allowed to own, control or contribute content to web sites until the end of his probation in October, 2015. Therefore, Hal Turner no longer has any connection whatsoever to this web site and does not contribute to its content.."

So, shoddy investigation on that front. Having said that it still begs the question of who they ARE, and why they seem to be privy to this information.

ENENews also dismiss an article from the Ecologist. Both Oliver Tickell (who writes for the Guardian) and the Ecologist have the highest credentials and the article is along the lines of what I might want to write if I wasn't in possession of all the facts.

Gizmodo Report Claims: “Fukushima could be in the middle of another meltdown”
300th most popular website in U.S. publishes “unsubstantiated rumor”

31 December, 2013

Gizmodo, Dec. 31, 2013: “Mystery Steam Over Fukushima Could Be Sign of Another Meltdown [...] The newest update in the highly disconcerting series of devastating failures that is the Fukushima cleanup effort is troubling to say the least. Tepco has confirmed that (unexplained) plumes of steam have been rising from the mangled remains of Reactor Building 3. In other words, there’s a chance Fukushima could be in the middle of another meltdown. The thing is, no one has been able to find out the exact cause of the rising, mysterious radioactive steam because the combination of physical damage and, more importantly, lethal radiation levels have made investigating the reactor impossible. Tepco has known that a followup meltdown was a severe possibility, though. [...]”
This Gizmodo report cites an article at ‘The Ecologist’ website, which doesn’t link to any evidence supporting their claims. In fact, there’s only one link throughout the entire piece — and it’s to an article by the ‘Turner Radio Network‘.
EXSKF has written about the many problems with the claims being made by the ‘Turner Radio Network’. Earlier today SimplyInfo addressed unsubstantiated rumors concerning Unit 3. Wikipedia has some additional information about the ‘Turner Radio Network’ website

Fukushima meltdown? Mystery steam rising over Reactor 3
Unexplained plumes of radioactive steam have been rising from Fukushima's Reactor Building 3, Could a major meltdown be on the way?

31 December, 2013

Fukushima's Reactor Building 3 exploded on 13th March 2011 as a result of a hydrogen buildup, breaching the building's containment and emitting a huge plume of radiation. The reactor itself is in meltdown.
And now fresh plumes of steam have been seen coming out the structure. These have now been confirmed by Tepco, the owner of the nuclear plant, from 19th December onwards. The company believes the steam is coming from the fifth floor of the building.
However it does not know the cause of the steam. Lethal levels of radiation and the physical damage to the structure have so far made entry and inspection impossible.
Possibility 1 - a meltdown is taking place
The Reactor 3 fuel storage pond still houses an estimated 89 tonnes of the plutonium-based MOX nuclear fuel employed by the reactor, composed of 514 fuel rods.
Ever since the explosion Tepco has been concerned that if the spent fuel storage pond dries out, the intensely radioactive spent fuel rods would melt down and produce further significant radioactive emissions.
One possibility is that this process may now be taking place. In the event of water loss from the pond, the water would begin to overheat and produce clouds of steam, prior to a complete meltdown. If this is the case then a second major nuclear disaster at Fukushima is in the making.
Possibility 2: 'corium' has reached groundwater
Reactor 3 itself contained 566 fuel rods, and has experienced a complete meltdown. The location of the molten fuel, known as 'corium', is unknown, but it may have burnt its way through the reactor base and entered the underlying soil.
This would also produce steam as the hot corium came into contact with groundwater, while also releasing radioactive contamination to make its way into the Pacific Ocean.
Possibility 3: rainwater on stray fuel elements
An alternative explanation is that the steam plumes could be caused by stray fuel pellets and reactor rod fragments - which themselves produce significant amounts of heat - coming into contact with rainwater percolating through the damaged and roofless structure. Of the three choices this is probably the least serious.
The Turner Radio Network is advising people on the West Coast of North America to "prepare for the worst" in case a meltdown of the waste fuel is in fact commencing. No official warnings have been released on either side of the Pacific.

Turner News comes out with a new alert

Rumors or news?

I am putting this out because I have no reason yet to be anything other than agnostic about this.

There is a sharp divide between those who take this seriously and those who immediately dismiss this as disinformation.

This seems to be based on an idea that this station is associated with “Hal” Turner, a known racist. In fact, the station has new owners and they take pains to point out that the content has nothing to do with “Hal” Turner.

The other is that they are associated with NETC. I have received enough information to convince me that their information is not to be taken too seriously – but I am not sure if this is more as a result to do proper research (which includes historical readings) or as a result of malign misinformation.

At this juncture I am not willing to take these reports as the final word any more than statements coming out of Fairewinds on the subject.

Please take this as something that is (as is anything) requiring confirmation. Iwaki is a large center so this should come soon enough, even if only through alternative channels.

What is not subject to doubt is that Japan and North America are subject to radiation and this is not going away any time soon

FLASH: RADIATION IN IWAKI CITY, FUKUSHIMA, JAPAN SKYROCKETS TO FROM 225 TO 21000 !!! RESIDENTS URGED TO EVACUATE THAT CITY IMMEDIATELY AS RADIATION REACHES LETHAL LEVELS OVERNIGHT; WINDS TO CARRY THAT RADIATION TO U.S. WEST COAST IN TWO DAYS

31 January, 2014

BREAKING NEWS ***** URGENT ***** -- (TRN http://www.TurnerRadioNetwork.com ) --

Residents of Iwaki City, Fukushima, Japan should EVACUATE THE CITY IMMEDIATELY due to lethal radiation levels occurring there right now.  According to the Nuclear Emergency Tracking Center (NETC), radiation levels in that city, which have averaged a level of 225 per hour over the last three months, have skyrocketed to 21,000 per hour.

This level of radiation is extremely dangerous and potentially lethal.  It is likely to reach the U.S. west coast in two days.

PS I checked with NETC and there was nothing in their most recent map to indicate an alert

Steam from Fukushima #3 – response from Fairewinds
Steam heat? What is happening at Fukushima Daiichi?

Historical photo from March, 2011

Via Facebook

Beginning on Monday December 30, 2013, the Internet has been flooded with conjecture claiming that Fukushima Daiichi Unit 3 is ready to explode. Fairewinds Energy Education has been inundated with questions about the very visible steam emanating from Fukushima Daiichi Unit 3. Our research, and discussions with other scientists, confirms that what we are seeing is a phenomenon that has been occurring at the Daiichi site since the March 2011 accident.

It is winter and it is cold throughout much of the northern hemisphere. Hot water vapor has been released daily by each of the four Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plants since the accident. We believe that is one of the reasons TEPCO placed covers over Daiichi 4 and 1. Sometimes the steam [hot water vapor] is visible and sometimes it is not. If you have been outside on a cold winter day, you have personally experienced that phenomenon when you see the breath you exhale form a cloud in the cold air. The technical explanation is that hot water vapor becomes visible when it comes in contact with cold air and condenses. During the winter months in the Fukushima Prefecture, the sea air is cold and moist, thus forming the ideal conditions to see the released steam.

Why is there still steam coming from the plants especially since TEPCO says that they are in cold shutdown? As we at Fairewinds have discussed in our many videos, podcasts, and reports, radioactive rubble (fission products) was left in each unit following the triple meltdowns. While the plants are shutdown in nuke speak, there is no method of achieving cold shut down in any nuclear reactor. While the reactor can stop generating the actual nuclear chain reaction, the atoms left over from the original nuclear chain reaction continue to give off heat that is called the decay of the radioactive rubble (fission products). The heat from this ongoing decay of radioactive rubble is constantly releasing moisture (steam) and radioactive products into the environment. The radioactive decay is gradually slowing down, as fission products decay away. The cold moist winter air at this time of year is making steam from the ongoing decay easily visible.

How much radiation is escaping? When Unit 3 was operating, it was producing more than 2,000 megawatts of heat from the nuclear fission process (chain reaction in the reactor). Immediately after the earthquake and tsunami, it shut down and the chain reaction stopped, but Unit 3 was still producing about 160 megawatts of decay heat. Now, 30 months later, it is still producing slightly less than 1 megawatt (one million watts) of decay heat.

What does that figure mean; is it an inconsequential amount? 1 megawatt of decay heat is a lot of heat even today, and it is creating radioactive steam, but it is not a new phenomenon. These hot radioactive releases [not physically hot, but radioactive hot – meaning they contain radioactive fission products] have occurring for the entire 33 months following the triple meltdown. The difference now is that the only time we visibly notice these ongoing releases is on the cold days with atmospheric conditions cold enough to condense hot vapor into steam.

Fairewinds Energy Education would like to thank our viewers and listeners for following our work and supporting our work and sending it important questions like this one. We will continue to keep you informed.

No rescue yet for Akademik Shokalskiy

So much more than just a rescue.

This is the mission statement for “the Spirit of Mawson”:

The Antarctic remains one of the last great unexplored regions on Earth. In spite of a century of discovery, Antarctica and the Southern Ocean remain a unique place to monitor the health of our planet. The Australasian Antarctic Expedition – the AAE – will truly meld science and adventure, repeating century old measurements to discover and communicate the changes taking place in this remote and pristine environment.

Scientists aboard ship trapped in the Antarctica ring in New Year
An icebound Russian research vessel rang in the New Year in Antarctica as blizzards delayed a helicopter rescue planned after several icebreaking attempts failed..

SMH,
1 January, 2014

The MV Akademik Shokalskiy has been stranded 100 nautical miles east of the French base Dumont d’Urville for a week, hemmed in by impenetrable pack ice
that three separate breakers have been unable to breach.

The Australian government’s supply ship Aurora Australis on Monday came within 10 nautical miles of the marooned vessel — which has 74 research scientists, tourists and crew on board — but was forced to turn back by snow showers and freezing winds.

Russia’s foreign ministry said a decision had been reached overnight to evacuate all 52 passengers by a helicopter on board the Chinese icebreaker Xue Long, which remains nearby after its own aborted bid to reach the Akademik Shokalskiy.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), which is coordinating operations, said severe weather continued to block efforts Tuesday. “This rescue will be a complex operation involving a number of steps and subject to factors such as weather,” AMSA said.

“The helicopter is unable to fly in the current weather conditions, and will hold off on the rescue until conditions improve. Weather conditions are unlikely to start improving until tomorrow and decisions related to carrying out the rescue may be made at short notice.” AMSA said a landing site had been marked on the ice beside the Russian ship, adding that only passengers and none of the ship’s 22 crew would be evacuated.

“The passengers are expected to be rescued by helicopter in groups of 12 and will be initially transported to the Xue Long,” AMSA said.

“The Aurora Australis will then use its barge to transfer all 52 passengers on board their vessel. The barge can take up to 22 people at a time.” It would be “a couple of weeks” before they were returned to land, with the Aurora Australis needing to head to Australia’s Casey Antarctic base to refuel before heading to Hobart with the passengers, AMSA said.

Ship’s doctor Andrew Peacock said the passengers were frustrated but “resigned to keep waiting” and trying to keep their spirits high, with a New Year party planned in the ship’s bar.

“(We’re) passing the time reading, preparing for a possible helicopter evacuation, continuing ocean studies dropping probes beneath the ice, (watching) movies in the auditorium and working on a new song for New Year’s Eve celebrations, which will be a nice dinner and time at the bar,” Peacock said.

“We know this is a serious event and we are inconveniencing others. We are not morose or upset, just frustrated and we have no option but to settle in and keep morale high.” The ship is stocked with two weeks’ worth of fresh food and another fortnight of dehydrated rations. But Peacock said drinks were running low, with “just enough alcohol left to celebrate” the arrival of 2014.

“We are preparing for evacuation to a dry ship so a few drinks seems reasonable, but we also have to be ready at a moment’s notice for the helicopter arrival so staying sober is important,” he said.

Peacock said passengers had been upset by speculation on social media that they were not on a “serious science-based” expedition or had been negligent in some way, which he said could “not be further from the truth.”

“We were caught as we left to go north en route to home by a new breakout of ice dragged across to this area by strong southeasterly winds. This was a fairly rare event in this specific location,” he said.

“The scientists and passengers are very unhappy about the way this has played out but we can’t be expected to just sit and be sad or unhappy,” he added, defending upbeat photo and video posts from the ship.

Oceanographer Erik Van Sebille recorded one such log from his cabin Tuesday where he was preparing for evacuation.

“It’s really a concept of hurry up and wait. Everything must be ready to go as soon as possible, but in the meantime it’s a long, long wait ahead.”

Terror in Volgograd

For anyone who is not aware of the numerous name changes under Soviet rule Volgograd is Stalingrad, which was the battle that turned the tide during WW11.

Bombs, blood and death return to Volgograd
The southern Russian city of Volgograd was in a state of siege as troops patrolled the streets and its people struggled to come to terms with two suicide bombings in 24 hours.

1 January, 2014

At least 14 people were killed and 28 injured, three critically, when the second blast ripped through a packed trolleybus near a market in Volgograd's Dzerzhinsk district in the morning rush hour local time.

Fatima Samukhvalova was chatting to other vendors beside her flower stall when the bomber struck.

"First we heard a thud, then the explosion, and then a shock wave that knocked my colleague off her feet. We ran down the road and found a bus completely destroyed. It was horrible to look at. There were bits of people, dead people, lots of blood," she said.

She described how market workers had joined conscript soldiers to help as many survivors as possible before the emergency services arrived.

"The soldiers were excellent. They did everything properly and calmly.

"I helped one woman. No one knows why they target Volgograd. We're peaceful people here, and all nationalities live together peacefully. Everyone helped - Russians, Azerbaijainis, Moldovans. We're all afraid."

Survivors included a 3-month-old girl, Vika Tokunova, apparently saved from the blast by the blanket in which her mother and grandmother had wrapped her as they took her for a medical check.

Both women were killed, according to the website Lifenews, and the baby was said to be in a serious condition with a fractured skull and lung trauma.

While the people of Volgograd struggled to comprehend why their city was being targeted by terrorists, Russian authorities scrambled to make sense of a series of attacks that their intelligence services had failed to predict.

The blast came only a day after a suicide bomber killed 17 people and injured more than 40 at the city's main railway station and followed another suicide bus bomb in October that killed at least six.

The Investigative Committee, Russia's equivalent of the FBI, said the bus bombing was the work of a man whose remains were being tested in an attempt to establish his identity.

Meanwhile, reports in the Russian press named the man behind the railway station blast as Pavel Pechenkin, who lived in the republic of Mari El, 645km east of Moscow and converted to Islam last year.

Pechenkin's father, Nikolai, has already given a DNA sample to aid identification, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported.

Pechenkin, a former paramedic, was reported to have adopted the Muslim name Ansar Ar-Rusi in 2012 and to have left home soon afterwards.

He told his parents he was going to stay with his younger brother in Moscow, but they later learned he had gone to Dagestan, the North Caucasus republic at the heart of an Islamist insurgency.

Mari El, which previously has not been connected with the insurgency 1610km away, has a population of 700,000, of whom just 6 per cent are Muslim.

Russian media had initially reported that the station bomber was a 26-year-old woman who had twice been married to insurgent fighters, each in turn killed by special forces. But later the Investigative Committee said that the suspect was a male of "Slavic" appearance who carried explosives in a rucksack.

President Vladimir Putin summoned the heads of both the Interior Ministry and the FSB, the domestic security service that succeeded the KGB, to the Kremlin before sending Alexander Bortnikov, the FSB chief, to Volgograd to take control of the investigation.

Putin ordered security to be tightened across Russia and later met Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime Minister, to discuss "all questions connected with providing medical help, financial assistance and other forms of support for the injured and families of those killed in the terror attacks in Volgograd".

Russia's Foreign Ministry likened the two suicide bombings to attacks in the US, Syria and other countries and called for solidarity against what it said was an attempt by terrorists to open "another front". A statement said: "We will not retreat and will continue our consistent fight against an insidious enemy that can only be defeated together."

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, they follow a July call by Doku Umarov, a Chechen insurgent leader, for his followers to do their utmost to disrupt the Winter Olympics - due to begin in the Russian resort of Sochi, 640km from Volgograd, in February.

The extent of Umarov's authority is disputed and experts have suggested that the lack of a claim of responsibility suggests that his organisation has been degraded and the insurgency now operates in small cells hard for Russian security forces to penetrate.

The series of attacks is grimly reminiscent of the build-up to terrorist "spectaculars" in the mid-2000s, including the Beslan School siege, in which more than 300 people died, 180 of them children.

Then suicide bombers had blown up two airliners in mid-air a week before they seized the school on September 1, 2004, in what security experts now describe as an attempt to divert the security services' attention ahead of the main attack.

As authorities closed all Volgograd's shopping centres and other potential terrorist targets and 4000 Interior Ministry troops and hundreds of volunteers flooded the streets, it was difficult to shake the feeling that a state of war had returned.

'Fight terrorists until full elimination': Putin changes New Year address after Volgograd terror attacks
The deadly suicide attacks in Volgograd forced Vladimir Putin to make changes to his traditional New Year address, with the Russian President promising to wage “a confident, tough and consistent” war on terror until total victory.

RT,
31 December, 2013

“The inhumane terrorist acts in Volgograd” were among the biggest challenges Russia faced in 2013, the Putin said in his address to the nation, broadcast minutes before the New Year.
“In the time of challenges Russia always stood united and solid,” he stressed.

At least 34 people have lost their lives and over 80 injured in two suicide blasts in Russia’s southern city of Volgograd on December 29 and 30, with the president saying: “We bend our head before the victims of the violent terrorist attacks.”
“We’ll lead a confident, tough and consistent battle against the terrorists until their full elimination,” the President promised.

This year, Putin broke the long-time tradition and gave up on the pre-recorded address to the nation, shot at the Kremlin several days before the New Year.

On December 31, Putin made a surprise visit to Khabarovsk, which contains one of the temporary accommodation centers for those who lost their homes in
massive floods hitting the Russian Far East this summer.

The sudden change of plans resulted in the Russians getting two presidential addresses as Putin recorded his new speech in Khabarovsk.

It happened in front of the inhabitants of an accommodation center and the soldiers, who battled the natural disaster, invited by the head of the state to welcome in 2014 with him.

The Khabarovsk address turned out to be three minutes longer than the initial speech, with specifics on the Volgograd blasts and the devastating floods in the Far East added.

“On New Year’s Eve, the President decided to be with those specific people, who survived this unprecedented catastrophe. And here he addresses them with a felicitation,”
Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s press-secretary, told ITAR-TASS news agency.
“And this greeting speech has become his New Year address, which means that he, in fact, broke a longstanding tradition,” the spokesman added.

Peskov explained the fact that Kamchatka saw the old address by
“a technical blunder” as the footage was not sent there in time.
“My dear friends, this year I’m addressing you with a New Year speech not from the Kremlin as usual, but from the Far East,” Putin said in his new address. “I came here to meet the New Year with those, who with honor and dignity passed the test of nature, but can’t celebrate the holiday in their own homes. Together with them, I congratulate the whole of the country and raise my glass to our people, the health of those, who fought the flood, showing compassion and selfless generosity.”

In August, several big rivers in the Far East, including the Amur and Zeya, burst their banks, which resulted in one of the biggest floods the region has ever seen.

12,000 homes were flooded in Khabarovsk, Amur and Jewish Autonomous Regions, with over 183,000 people affected by the natural disaster.

“We’ll support all those, who were affected [by the floods],”
the President said. “We’ll do everything that was planned – reconstruct and build everything slated to be reconstructed or built.”

But despite the challenges Putin gave a positive assessment of 2013,
“our country became somewhat better, more convenient, more prosperous and succeeded in persistently defending its interests in international affairs,” he stressed.

As for Russia’s main tasks in 2014, Putin said that a lot has to be done
“in the economy, in improving the lives of people and assuring their safety,” with another important issue on the agenda being “hosting the Olympics and Paralympics at the highest level.”

Pollution in China

8 million acres of China’s farmland are too polluted to grow food

30 December, 2013

You’d think that China would be big enough that it could grow food for all the people who live there and keep that food clear of the worst contamination of its growing industrial production. But, nope, these two things are happening quite near each other, Reuters reports:

China’s determination to squeeze as much food and resources as possible from its land has put thousands of farms close to chemical plants, mines, and other heavy industries, raising the risks of contamination. …

A government land survey revealed traces of toxic metals dating back at least a century as well as pesticides banned in the 1980s, and state researchers have said that as much as 70 percent of China’s soil could have problems.

The result of historical and current industrial production is that 8 million acres — an area Reuters describes as “about the same size as Belgium” — are so polluted that any food grown there would be dangerous to eat. It’s already happened: Earlier this year, rice with scary high levels of the heavy metal cadmium showed up in markets. The government says it’s going to throw tens of billions of yuan (or, billions of dollars) at the problem — but it’s not a good sign when the food grown in large swaths of your country is as unsafe as food from the backyard of a factory.

BREAKING NEWS: BALD EAGLES --SYMBOL OF OUR NATION-- DYING OFF--THE ONE PICTURED HERE DIED AFTER THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN...WAKE UP!!! FUKUSHIMA HAS RAINED DOWN ON US!!!!INDEPENDENT RESEARCHERS NEED TO BE TESTING THE GREAT SALT LAKE AND OTHER LARGE BODIES OF WATER!!!! WILDLIFE OFFICIALS ALARMED..MANY MORE SICK AND DYING EAGLES..It's called BIOACCUMULATION RIGHT UP THE FOOD CHAIN!!! Erickson at the Ogden rehab center said "ALL THE SICK EAGLES SHE'S SEEN SUFFERED FROM ENCEPHALITIS, OR SWELLING OF THE BRAIN, AND MANY HAD HEART DAMAGE....SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE SUFFERING OF KIDS OF CHERNOBYL....DAMN NUCLEAR INDUSTRY!!!! SERIOUSLY, WAKE THE HELL UP AND WATCH THIS - www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ujAG_Ofj4M

STILL 100 of these ticking time bombs scattered all over our country and nuclear loving Obama wants to build even more.

Any bets on how long it will take researchers to connect the dots on this one? "Although many sick eagles tested positive for lead researchers did not think that it was killing the birds (note: lead is a material that can originate from nuclear fallout), .... Eagles are known to prey on the small shore birds" and what do you suppose small shore birds eat???

MIC CHECK: NUCLEAR POISON HURTS IMMUNE SYSTEMS AND MAKES HUMANS AND ANIMALS SUSCEPTIABLE TO INFECTIONS!!! IT HAPPENED (and is still happening) IN CHERNOBYL. IT IS HAPPENING IN FUKUSHIMA.

AND NOW BECAUSE OF THE LONGEST ONGOING NUCLEAR SPILL IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND--OVER 1,000 DAYS OF NUCLEAR POISON SPEWING INTO THE PACIFIC OCEAN EACH AND EVERY DAY--THE ANIMALS ARE DYING OFF!!! THE POISON IS BEING PICKED UP IN THE WATER CYCLE AND RAINED DOWN ON US AND IS BIOACCUMULATING RIGHT UP THE FOOD CHAIN!!!!

WORSE YET: Most people remain completely uninformed because lamestream nuclear loving media still hasn't said a peep about it. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL--NEWS SHOULD BE FREE FROM BIAS!!!

WE WANT THE TRUTH--STOP BOMBARDING US WITH COMMERCIALS TO SUPPORT CANCER SOCIETIES--TELL PEOPLE WHY THEY NEED MORE FUNDING--BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET IT!!!

SHUT NUCLEAR DOWN!! CAN"T YOU SEE YET IT IS KILLING LIFE ON THIS PLANET?????

“It’s just hard to have your national bird in your arms, going through seizures in a way it can’t control — when you can see it’s pain but don’t know what’s happening to it.” --people have said the same thing about kids downwind from the Chernobyl nuclear spill--hard to hold them in your arms watching them go through seizures.
