Trump's Seismic testing plan for Alaska

What could possibly go wrong? Think methane clathrates

Trump officials may allow 'shaker machines' to search arctic refuge for oil

Seismic testing plan would cause irreparable harm to Alaska national wildlife refuge, biologists say

24 July, 2018

The Trump administration has announced it is considering a proposal to conduct seismic testing for oil and gas in the Arctic national wildlife refuge, the largest such preserve in the US.

If the plan moves forward, vehicles with “shakers” – diesel-powered equipment that sends tremors through the landscape – will be deployed along Alaska’s northern coastal plain in an effort to map underground hydrocarbon deposits.

SAExploration, the Colorado-based firm that would carry out the work, has committed to mitigating environmental impact by using large sleds, and non-industrial vehicles along ice roads, to minimize scarring and impact on flora and fauna. Nevertheless, airstrips would need to be built in the pristine wilderness to service the two 150-person teams in charge of the mapping.

Biologists and environmentalists argue that the testing will cause irreparable harm to the pristine wilderness. The Porcupine caribou herd, which migrates 1,500 miles through the refuge, ends its journey along the plain where the testing will take place. The caribou calve along the coast and provide critical subsistence food for the Gwich’in Nation, which has lived and depended on the land for thousands of years.

In April, the US interior department commissioned an expedited environmental review of the impact of leasing the land for oil and gas drilling.

Since its founding by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, the refuge has embodied the American ideal of “wilderness” – where no roads, buildings, or any trace of human presence is allowed, save for temporary shelter.

Opening the refuge to drilling has been a signature part of Trump’s pitch to Republicans, despite enormous public resistance. Both Alaska’s senators, along with its single House representative, all Republicans, favor the move, which is estimated to bring in more than $1bn in federal revenue over the next 10 years.

“Things are happening more quickly than we can react,” said Heather Bauscher, an Alaska-based wildlife biologist who has done extensive research in the Arctic. “We’re making policy decisions without a lot of information on the ground. In the current political climate, there’s not a lot of funding being put to the research, and that makes it even harder.”

No seismic work has been done in the refuge since the mid-1980s. Despite enormous pressure from the Republican party to open the land, The refuge is not bifurcated by roads or the tread marks of industrial machinery, and the migrations of caribou, polar bears and waterfowl proceed unhindered by humans.

In July, the Porcupine caribou herd will conclude its calving season and head back into the mountains for the winter. Leases for full-scale drilling along the coast could be available as early as summer 2019 – right about when the caribou herd descends on to the coastal plain after its long journey to give birth once more.

This article was amended on 24 July 2018 to remove an erroneous reference to caribou migration.

Greenpeace swimmers stop Amazon Warrior seismic blasting, 50 miles out to sea

Government demands arrest of Russel Norman

11 April, 2017

This is disgraceful, our own bloody Government is attempting to charge Russel Norman for protesting against more deep sea oil exploration.

This is part of new laws the National Party passed to arrest anyone daring to protest against the oil companies at sea.
When the Government can arrest former leaders of political parties using trumped up laws they passed to enable the oil companies to get a free pass from protestors, you know they have gone way too far to protect corporate interests over the rights of citizens.
Fuck this Government!

PRESS RELEASE: Greenpeace swimmers stop Amazon Warrior seismic blasting, 50 miles out to sea

10 April, 2017

Greenpeace activists have thrown themselves into the sea in front of a huge offshore oil exploration vessel off the New Zealand coast.
Among them is Greenpeace Executive Director, Russel Norman.
The swimmers’ position has forced the oil exploration ship to halt its operations and deviate off course.
This drama is taking place 50 nautical miles off the Wairarapa coast where the 125 metre Amazon Warrior, nicknamed “The Beast” is seismic blasting for oil.

The oil exploration is being carried out for Arctic driller Statoil and Chevron, a US oil company part-owned by President Donald Trump.
To find oil, the Amazon Warrior is using seismic cannons to blast the seafloor with sound waves every eight seconds, day and night. It needs to travel in straight lines along a grid to get data about potential oil reserves, and any deviation makes this data unusable.
The blasts it lets off are comparable in sound to an underwater volcano and can cause chronic distress to whales and dolphins in the area.
Statoil and Chevron have permits to drill to extreme depths of up to three kilometres if oil is found – twice as deep as Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, which caused the world’s largest and most devastating oil spill in 2010.
The Fossil Fuel President, Donald Trump, has shares in Chevron, and the oil company funded a large part of his presidential inauguration.
25-year-old, Sara is another of the swimmers currently floating in the path of the Amazon Warrior with Russel Norman.
She says she’s putting her body on the line because the ship is searching for the very oil that will destroy her future.
“The science is settled that we can’t burn the majority of the fossil fuel reserves we know about if we want to keep the Earth’s temperature below dangerous levels,” she says.
“What this means is that not a single newly discovered oil well anywhere in the world can operate if we want to avoid a climate catastrophe. Right now I’m looking at a ship that’s been invited here by the New Zealand Government to do just that.
“I’m young and I’m already experiencing the effects of climate change. Every year the storms get worse, the floods and the droughts are getting more extreme. Just imagine how grim my future looks if we can’t stop this.
“It’s easy to feel powerless because what we’re up against is so big. But everywhere, people are rising up and demanding change. Their actions are having a snowball effect, and in many parts of the world, we’re starting to see huge, positive changes.”
Greenpeace has been tailing the Amazon Warrior for the past 2 days in its newest boat, Taitu.
The organisation crowdfunded nearly $100,000 in just a week to buy the 15-metre boat, and ran an online competition to choose its name.
A 2013 Amendment to the Crown Minerals Act, dubbed the 'Anadarko Amendment', was put in place to stop protests at sea around oil exploration. The law change makes it an offence to interfere with or get closer than 500 metres of an offshore ship involved in oil exploration.
From on board Taitu, Greenpeace Executive Director, Dr Russel Norman, says the right to peaceful protest is essential to a healthy democracy and New Zealand has a long and proud tradition of protest at sea.
“Neither the Government nor the oil industry can stifle people across New Zealand peacefully rising up against this mad pursuit of new oil to burn in the midst of what is nothing less than a climate emergency,” he says.
“Climate change threatens our homes, health and families. Despite knowing this, our Government is actively subsidising oil companies to look for new oil, putting profits above people’s lives - it has become necessary for people to take action.
“In New Zealand we’ve already seen extreme storms, flooding, drought and fires in the space of a just a few weeks, and it’s only April. Climate change makes these weather events more frequent and more intense.”
Taitu’s trip follows on from a flotilla that included Ngāti Kahungunu’s voyaging waka, Te Matau a Māui, which travelled out to the Amazon Warrior to deliver a message on behalf of more than 80 hapū of Te Ikaroa.
Public opposition to oil exploration has seen protests in ports, petitions garnering tens of thousands of signatures, and significant local government and iwi opposition.

Greenpeace intercepts the seismic blasting ship that's exploring for oil 50NM east of Wairarapa, NZ

Intercepting the Amazon Warrior AKA The Beast
SO beautiful here on the Wairarapa coast. But nearby lurks The Beast, a monster seismic blasting ship looking for oil...

Yesterday two Greenpeace boats intercepted the seismic blasting ship that's exploring for oil 50NM east of Wairarapa. They delivered this cease and desist message from over 60,000 New Zealanders:http://greenpeace.nz/cease-and-desist

Arcticle asks if NZ quake was manmade

I have to say in advance that I don’t stand by everything that I post on this blog.

There are some obvious inaccuracies in the report (especially the video below) - the sighting of the Amazon Warrior by MP Stefan Browning was in Cloudy Bay which is off the coast of Seddon – the main earthquake occurred to the south of this.

Despite this, as with the Christchurch earthquake there are some strange coincidences.

This means that some questions need to be asked – they never will be of course. No proof but some big “coincdences” that should be explained.

Was NZ Earthquake Man Made?

World’s biggest seismic testing “Blast” ship – Amazon Warrior – parked on top of New Zealand Fault Line

If you were planning to do seismic blasting off the coast of a country, the best time to do it would be with the full moon wouldn’t it? That way people only discuss that as the possible reason for the quake.

The worlds biggest seismic blasting ship the Amazon Warrior was photographed off Rarangi Beach in Cloudy Bay last night. Right on top of a major fault line.
Green MP Steffan Browning reported it on his Facebook page for hours before the giant quakes.

The post has been shared over 400 times at the time of this post.

The ship was met with protests when it arrived on the 13h…

There are trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas around NZ’s shores.

It has now been well reported (in the real/social media) that the US state department had advanced knowledge of the Christchurch quakes – with John Key saying they were “man made” earthquakes. Surely the oil company banker would know? Plus the usual dose of foreign spies with extra passports on scene – as there always is with most of these events… read more below:
Hillary Clinton emails show advanced warning of Christchurch earthquake in 2011.

Kaikoura was clearly the target – now destroyed, and the basin is full of the precious oil for the foreign bankers and the only thing stopping them was the people of Kaikoura –  now homeless and to be relocated by NZ navy ship.
And guess we now know why John Kerry was making a short notice/unexplained trip to NZ right in the middle of a fierce US election…
US disaster relief ‘FEMA’ was in Christchurch the week before the Christchurch earthquake also. Strange how they seem to know when the quakes will strike isn’t it?

Surely John Key, Simon Bridges and their fellow foreign banker mafia should now be rounded up for questioning. People have died. Or perhaps Kiwis should just be thankful they haven’t been carpet bombed, like the same “club” has done to Iraq, Libya and Syria for their resources. And Afghanistan for its opium of course.

The semi retarded Government sponsored “experts” are all over the media today explaining that there is no way such ships have the technology to trigger such a large quake. As if they would have access to accurate info on the latest military technology.

Explosion tests seaworthiness of new U.S. Navy vessel

Headline Goes Here

D

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - An apparent 3.7 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Central Florida was likely triggered by a man-made explosion to test the seaworthiness of a new U.S. Navy vessel.
Seismographs detected the earthquake Saturday afternoon about 168 nautical miles northeast of Daytona Beach Shores.
A similar 3.7 magnitude "earthquake" on June 10 off Ormond-by-the-Sea happened about the same time the Navy reported conducting a shock trial on the USS Jackson for testing. The Navy notified the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service that another shock trial would be conducted between July 16 and July 20.
The Navy's Sea System Command spokesman Dale Eng said the Navy is working on a statement to release this week.
Here is coverage from Dutchsinse who reportedly predicted the quake

Canadian oil company pulls out of oil exploration

Yet another plank of John Key's “rockstar economy” falls away

Falling prices sees oil firm pull out

TAG Oil's East Coast programme has gone from dawn to dusk thanks to the plummeting price of oil.

By Patrick O'Sullivan

Plummeting oil prices have seen TAG Oil give notice it will formally relinquish its remaining Hawke's Bay exploration permit.

Billions of barrels of oil were estimated in TAG's East Coast exploration areas but with no partner forthcoming to share a costly drilling programme and the wholesale global price of oil one third of the price two years ago, TAG has walked away.

Last year it surrendered its permit area near Gisborne and the latest permit area to be surrendered includes the drill sites at Boar Hill near Porangahau and Ngapaeruru-1 east of Dannevirke.

Tararua mayor Roly Ellis said the district had been looking forward to economic development should the drilling programme enable commercial quantities of oil, but some residents would be pleased to see TAG depart.

He said whether drilling resumed "all depends on the price of oil" but the district had other development possibilities.

"All sorts of things might happen in the next five to 10 years."

All well and seismic data collected by TAG must be submitted to government agency New Zealand Petroleum & Mineral, which will make it publicly available on its free database.

TAG will concentrate on proven Taranaki reserves.

The Canadian-owned and listed company operates only in New Zealand.

Notice it would drop the PEP 38349 exploration permit was announced in the company's third-quarter results.

Revenue from oil and gas sales fell by 11 per cent for the quarter ended December 31 to $5.1 million from $5.7 million for the previous quarter. The 11 per cent decrease was due to a 7 per cent decrease in oil prices and 6 per cent decrease in oil and gas volume sold.

TAG's surrendered permits, including the Waitangi Valley drill site near Gisborne, will be included in future government Block Offers.

The Waitangi well was abandoned in 2014 because of unprecedented high pressure reserves at shallow depths.

Australian and New Zealand company Mosman Oil & Gas currently holds an 883sq km exploration area that includes Dannevirke and Pahiatua.
