Chinese public health officials urged travellers to the rural areas and grassland 

in Inner Mongolia to step up personal protections after a city in the autonomous 

region reported a case of bubonic plague over the weekend.

People should not get close to or eat wild animals, nor camp in the grassland 

overnight, said Pang Xinghuo, vice-director of the Beijing Centre for Disease 

Prevention and Control, told a news conference on Monday.

Anyone who runs a temperature should report his or her travel history to the 

grassland or any contact with wild animals to doctors, Pang urged.

She also reminded doctors and nurses to familiarise themselves with the 

symptoms of the plague and to strengthen their patient inquiries to trace any 

travel history for "accurate and timely diagnosis and handling".

A 15 year-old boy has died of bubonic plague in Mongolia, according to the 

country's health ministry.

The National Centre for Zoonotic Diseases (NCZD) said the teenager from the 

western province of Govi-Altai had died from eating marmot meat.

A quarantine has now been put in place on five districts in the province, which 

shares a border with China.

"The result of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test revealed on Monday night 

that bubonic plague caused the death of a 15-year-old boy," Dorj Narangerel, a 

spokesperson for the health ministry, told a press conference.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has warned “against all but 

essential international travel” to Mongolia. This comes as the Chinese region of 

Inner Mongolia confirmed a case of suspected bubonic plague on Saturday.

As a result, the city of Bayan Nur’s health committee issued an alert in a bid to 

contain the outbreak.

The third-level alert bans the hunting and eating of animals that could possibly 

carry the plague.

It also asks that the public report any sick or dead marmots in the area.

The FCO said: “There have been isolated incidents of bubonic plague in some 

areas of Mongolia, plague is caught by consuming marmot meat.

“The meat is a delicacy in some rural areas although it is illegal to hunt for 

marmot in Mongolia.

“In travelling through rural areas [in Mongolia], you should avoid marmot meat 

and take precautionary actions on bubonic plague.”

Last November, four cases of the plague were reported from Inner Mongolia.

Two of the people were infected with pneumonic plague which is reportedly a 

deadlier case of the plague.

Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism has issued a special warning to tourists traveling to Mongolia after two fatal cases of bubonic plague were confirmed in the country.

Two Russians have died of the highly contagious disease, and reportedly became infected after eating contaminated marmot organs. The married couple from Siberia are believed to have come into contact with at least 158 people before they died. These people have been quarantined.

The tourism agency said the deaths were recorded in the western Mongolian province of Bayan-Ulgii, according to the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor).

The agency asked tourists to take this information into account when planning trips to the region.

Rospotrebnadzor has taken steps to prevent infection at the border areas, including quarantine control and more than 90 percent of the population has been vaccinated. The agency is also in communication with health institutes in Mongolia

A strain of African swine fever is spreading in Asia killing virtually every pig it infects by a hemorrhagic illness reminiscent of Ebola in humans.   All efforts to halt the spread -including the culling of 1 Million Pigs - HAVE FAILED!  The disease is now out of control . . .

Last August, a farm with about 400 hogs was found infected with African swine fever, the first ever occurrence of the contagious viral disease in China --- a country with half the world’s pigs. Forty-seven head had died, triggering emergency measures including mass culling and a blockade to stop the transportation of livestock.

Less than a week later, a government notice declared the outbreak “effectively controlled.”  That was either wrong, or a lie.  What the government SHOULD have said was "We're too late."

It was too late. By then, the disease had literally gone viral, dispersed across hundreds of miles in sickened animals, contaminated food, and in dirt and dust on truck tires and clothing.

Nine months later, the contagion has spread nationwide, crossed borders to Mongolia, Vietnam and Cambodia, and is now affecting meat prices on meat markets globally.

Official estimates count 1 million culled hogs, but slaughter data suggests 100 times more will have to be killed to have any chance at all of stopping the spread.

The strain of African swine fever spreading in Asia is undeniably nasty, killing virtually every pig it infects by a hemorrhagic illness reminiscent of Ebola in humans. It’s not known to sicken people . . . yet.

But medical science has long ago showed that body parts from pigs (like heart valves) CAN be used in humans.   If pig body parts can be used in humans, it seems to many as though a VIRUS that kills pigs, can also kill humans.

STOP BUYING ANY PORK PRODUCT MADE OR PROCESSED IN CHINA.    If you already have any such products, it might be a good idea the throw it out or incinerate it.
