OVH Datacenter in France was engulfed in flames, taking down thousands of sites and businesses including popular plugins WP Rocket and Imagify. A multitude of businesses are tweeting updates to their clients.

A fire engulfed an OVH cloud data center that is located in Strasbourg, France. The fire was initially reported to be uncontrolled but was subsequently controlled by firefighters, who remained on the scene to make sure the building cools down.

Update March 11, 2020

The cause of the fire has not been determined. OVH is reserving new servers at other data centers for affected customers, plus an additional 10,000 new servers in the coming weeks.

OVH announced that they are currently securing the site and working on a plan to relaunch two unaffected data centers (SBG3 and SBG4) and one partially affected data center (SBG1).

OVH issued a status announcement on their cloud server support page:

“We are currently facing a major incident in our DataCenter of Strasbourg with a fire declared in the building SBG2.
Firefighters were immediately on the scene but could not control the fire in SBG2.
The whole site has been isolated, which impacts all our services on SBG1, SBG2, SBG3 and SBG4. If your production is in Strasbourg, we recommend to activate your Disaster Recovery Plan. All our teams are fully mobilized along with the firefighters.”

OVH tweeted that while the fire is over, firefighters remain on the scene cooling down the building. They also tweeted that many of the servers will not be restarted soon.

“Fire is over. Firefighters continue to cool the buildings with the water.
We don’t have the access to the site. That is why SBG1, SBG3, SBG4 won’t be restarted today.”

WP Rocket Site is Down

Popular WordPress plugin WP Rocket tweeted that their website is down.

Although the WP Rocket website is down, the plugin is mostly still working.

WordPress Image Optimization Site Imagify

Imagify, with over 400,000 users also experienced downtime because of the fire. Their website was down.

An Imagify plugin user tweeted that they had trouble connecting.

Many sites are reporting having lost their web presence, with one gaming site anticipating major data loss:

“We’re expecting a large amount of data loss across the affected servers.”

Rust later confirmed that all data was lost and would not be able to be restored.

Backups and Emergency Site Restoration

Those who did not backup their data may find themselves in a difficult position. It’s unclear at this time if OVH will be able to restore the data lost on the cloud servers.

Sites that do have a backup should be able to change their DNS to point at another server and upload a new site immediately. But it can take several days for the new DNS settings to propagate. So it’s possible that some sites may take a few days to return.

Thankfully there were no injuries.

A concerning new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting the cyberattack threat made by Supreme Socialist Leader Joe Biden against the Russian Federation, that President Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to by declaring “This is nothing but international cybercrime”, says before any more of these types of threats are made, Biden would do well to focus his attention on the SBG2 Data Center and its over 30,000 computer servers in Strasbourg-France—with particular attention being focused on the total fiery destruction of this largest in Europe data center yesterday that cut off service to nearly all of the world’s most popular websites—the cause of which has yet to be determined.

While the ashes of this vital Western data center are still being sifted through, troubling new articles are appearing like “Joe Biden Is The Commander In Hiding”, “Mexico Alarmed As ‘Migrant President’ Biden Empowers TRAFFICKERS By Encouraging Illegal Immigration” and “Military Agrees To Keep Thousands Of National Guard Troops At US Capitol For Weeks To Protect Corrupt Democrats Who Are Terrified Of The American People”—the latter of which was responded to by top Republican Party leader US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who grimly observed: “I'm extremely uncomfortable with the fact that my constituents can't come to the Capitol...With all this razor wire around the complex, it reminds me of my last visit to Kabul...I just checked earlier this morning and there are no serious threats against the Capitol...It looks terrible to have the beacon of our democracy surrounded by razor wire and National Guard troops”.

With it being easier for Americans to visit the Kremlin than their own capitol city, the terror being exhibited by socialist Democrats against them is justified after they slammed these citizens yesterday with a COVID stimulus price tag of $17,000 per person and $69,000 per family—further slammed them with $60-billion in new taxes they secreted into this bill—also saw socialist Democrats sneaking into this bill an $86-billion bailout for corrupt union pension funds—though for the true horror of what’s just happened sees it being explained in the just published Wall Street Journal article “The Progressive Democratic Steamroller”, that, in part, reveals:

One lesson from the Covid non-fight is that there are no Democratic moderates in Congress.

The party base has moved so sharply left that even swing-state Members are more liberal than many liberals in the Clinton years.

Democrats lost not a single vote in the Senate and only one in the House. The fear of primary challenges from the left, which took out House war horses in 2018 and 2020, has concentrated incumbent minds.

A second lesson is that President Biden is no moderating political force.

Democrats in the House and Senate are setting the agenda, and Mr. Biden is along for the ride, and the media are marching in lockstep support of whatever Democrats want.

Confirming this analysis of what is soon to come were socialist Democrats in the US House this week passing the most radical pro-union labor bill since the 1935 Wagner Act that would erase right-to-work laws in 27 States—that was quickly joined by warning articles appearing like “Here Come Trillions More: Biden Will Unveil "Next Phase" Of COVID Response On Thursday”—sees socialist Democrats advancing their bill to strip the American people of their gun rights, which caused Republican Party leader US Congressman Chip Roy to declare: “The Government Is Never Going to Know What Weapons I Own”—and most ominously sees socialist Democrats advancing their law to destroy the entire election system so they can never lose, which Republican Party leader US Senator Mike Lee describes as “Written in Hell by The Devil Himself”, and his sounding the alarm about socialist Democrats if this bill ever passes: “They Could Remain In Power For Decades”.

All of which leads to one wonder why these Americans can never remember their own history, specifically because everything these socialist Democrats are doing now they did in the 1960s—which was when radical socialist warmonger President Lyndon Johnson led his socialist Democrats in the remaking of their nation into what they called the “Great Society”—which in reality led to the socialist destruction of mainly minority families who were forced to become wards of the state for generations, but remained loyal Democrat Party voters as was intended—saw these socialist Democrats enacting their Voting Rights Act of 1965 to ensure their grip on total power—saw these socialist Democrats enacting their Gun Control Act of 1968, that they copied verbatim from the gun laws enacted by Nazi Germany—then saw these socialist Democrats enacting their Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, which expanded the American police state and filled up to overflowing its nation’s prisons.

As socialists have always done, this radical remaking of America in the 1960s was only able to be accomplished by keeping its citizens’ attention diverted by actual war and the threat of war—the first accomplished by the Vietnam War, and then second by the Cold War—saw Republican Party leader President Richard Nixon ending the Vietnam War, after which the socialist Democrats drove him from power—then saw Republican Party leader President Ronald Reagan ending the Cold War, which is why he’s still reviled by socialist Democrats.

A history if fully understood by Americans would show them why President Donald Trump absolutely had to be driven from office by any means possible—and with this now being accomplished, once again sees these socialist Democrats remaking America again like they did in the 1960s, to include them preparing to use war and the threat of war as a distraction—which is why a new military airfield is rapidly being built on a highly strategic island in the Red Sea in reach of the entire Middle East—is why a nuclear armed US aircraft carrier group is rapidly deploying itself in the Mediterranean—is why the US and NATO are unleashing their dangerous new strategy against Russia—and is why the head of the US Indo-Pacific Command Admiral Philip Davidson said this week “China looks like it is planning for war”.

Unlike in the 1960s, however, both Russia and Communist China are prepared for the false flag event these socialist Democrats will use to ignite this war—though the same cannot be said about the American people, none of whom remember Operation Northwoods, which was the 1960s socialist American government plan to fake terrorist attacks on the US that President John Kennedy refused to allow, then saw him being publically executed—and if remembering, would see them trembling in fear because these are exact same socialist forces back in total control of their nation. Russian President Vladimir Putin has reacted fiercely to the contents of a report in the The New York Times this week that cited unnamed senior admin officials to say the White House is preparing a series of devastating cyberattacks on Russia as 'retaliation' for the SolarWinds hack.

A spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on Tuesday that the "alarming information" would constitute a "pure international cybercrime" and is thus condemned under international law.

"The Russian state has never had anything to do with cybercrimes and cyberterrorism it is being accused of," Peskov emphasized.

Specifically addressing the NY Times report further, Peskov added, "the fact that the newspaper doesn’t rule out that the American state could be involved in cybercrime, is definitely of great concern to us.”

Amazingly, the anonymous Biden admin officials revealed to the Times that a "series of clandestine actions across Russian networks" are expected to start within the next three weeks.

The cyber-operations will by design seek to get Putin and Russian intelligence's attention while being concealed from the broader public when it occurs, the NYT report said.

Detailing the Kremlin's condemnation and warning against any such cyber espionage, US News & World Report writes:

He spoke in response to a series of claims from U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and FBI Director Christopher Wray, that they are considering harsh punishments on Russia for the attack, including overt sanctions and some form of covert salvos in the cyber realm. Wray hinted at the action in testimony before Congress this month, saying the U.S. was preparing cyber "joint sequenced operations."

Multiple US intelligence agencies had issued a rare joint statement in the wake of the SolarWinds intrusion, saying it was "likely" Russia behind it, though without offering evidence or specific intelligence verification of the allegation.

However, it's since been confirmed that SolarWinds has largely faulted its own severe security lapses, including the fact that an update server's password was literally "solarwinds123" - which had been leaked by an employee online beginning years ago, according to prior Congressional testimony.

Russia has announced it is being hit with what they call a "massive" cyber-attack.

The websites of the http://Kremlin.ru, Roskomnadzor, and the Russian government, have gone down following the announcement.

It comes after reports the US was preparing a retaliation cyber attack against Russia. White House officials told the New York Times that the first major move is expected over the next three weeks and that the Government was planning a ‘series of clandestine actions across Russian networks’.

Sources said the actions would be less evident to outsiders but would send a clear signal to President Vladimir V. Putin and his officials. They added that cyber attacks could be combined with more economic sanctions. President Joe Biden is also expected to sign an executive order to strengthen government networks to crack down on the escalating cyberconflict.

Russia’s state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor said on Wednesday it was restricting the use of Twitter by slowing down its speed.

Official web sites of the Russian President, Duma, Federation Council, others, are paralyzed.

Russian officials have demanded Washington categorically rule out acts of cyberterrorism against the country, after Western media reported the US was mulling digital “retaliation” for a colossal hacker attack it blames on Moscow.

On Sunday, The New York Times claimed that President Joe Biden’s government was considering tough new actions over the SolarWinds scandal, which came to light last year. American state networks were penetrated by hackers as part of that breach, which the US blames on Russia.

Despite official denials from the Kremlin, the White House is reportedly planning a fiery response. “The first major move is expected over the next three weeks,” officials told the Times, “with a series of clandestine actions across Russian networks that are intended to be evident to President Vladimir Putin and his intelligence services and military but not to the wider world.”

On Tuesday, Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that “the fact that the newspaper doesn’t rule out that the American state could be involved in cybercrime, is definitely of great concern to us.”

Peskov added that "the Russian state has never had anything to do with the cybercrimes and cyberterrorism it is being accused of."

On Wednesday, a number of commenters and journalists speculated that US hackers had begun a campaign against the country, after a series of official websites were taken offline. The homepages of the Kremlin, the national parliament and the country’s media regulator were all hit by the outage.

However, Rostelecom, the agency responsible for maintaining internet access in the country, said that the problem was actually down to a technical error. “There was a malfunction of equipment,” it announced. “The problem is localized.” The sites appeared to function normally shortly afterwards.

Earlier on Wednesday, Russia’s media regulator announced it had begun slowing down the speed of US social media giant Twitter for users in the country. Roskomnadzor announced that this was because the company “does not remove content that incites minors to commit suicide, contains child pornography or information about the use of drugs.”

Twitter users in Russia are about to find it takes longer to share their thoughts online, as authorities start slowing the service's connection speeds amid a row over illegal content hosted by the US-based social media giant.

Communications regulator Roskomnadzor issued a statement on Wednesday morning announcing the decision, which it says is because Twitter “does not remove content that incites minors to commit suicide, contains child pornography or information about the use of drugs.”

The watchdog claims it has sent more than 28,000 requests for posts, links and publications to be deleted or blocked on the platform. However, at present, “3,168 pieces of content containing prohibited information… remain not deleted.” These reportedly include more than 2,500 calls for children to kill themselves and 450 involving child pornography.

NZ Reserve Bank data breach: Sensitive information illegally accessed

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is responding "with urgency" to a breach of one of its data systems.

A third-party file sharing service used by the Bank to share and store some sensitive information, has been illegally accessed.

Governor Adrian Orr says the breach has been contained, and the Bank is treating the matter with the highest priority, and acting with urgency.

"We are working closely with domestic and international cyber security experts and other relevant authorities as part of our investigation and response to this malicious attack. The nature and extent of information that has been potentially accessed is still being determined, but it may include some commercially and personally sensitive information."

"The system has been secured and taken offline until we have completed our initial investigations. It will take time to understand the full implications of this breach, and we are working with system users whose information may have been accessed. Our core functions remain sound and operational.

A spokesman for the RBNZ refused to immediately name the third-party provider, nor if the GCSB or any other government security agency had been roped in to assist.

The past 12-months have seen an escalation in cyberattacks, according to Crown agency Cert (Computer Emergency Response Team) NZ, with attacks increasing by 33 per cent year-on-year.

August and September saw the GCSB come to NZX's aid as the local stock exchange struggled to repel a series of DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks that overwhelmed its website.

Earlier in 2020, there were cyberattacks on multiple corporate targets including Fisher & Paykel Appliances, Toll Group and Lion.

In F&P Appliance''s case, a "ransomware" gang leaked a number of its spreadsheet and planning files onto the internet, in a bid to pressure the company to pay for the return of its stolen files. F&P refused.

AUT computer science professor Dave Parry told the Herald that a Covid was a double-whammy had contributed to the dramatic rise in cyberattacks.

The pandemic has spurred a working-from-home boom, often involving much lower security, as the same time that lockdowns around the globe had reduced many of organised crimes' usual "real-life" avenues - leading to a spike in cybercrime.

Businesses were being targeted to exploit the gaps in security that were opening up as staff shuffled files between work and home - and simply because commercial organisations are richer targets.
