Environment
teams have contained an oil spill at the Port of Timaru.
Environment
Canterbury said a significant amount of oil began to spill from a
deep sea fishing vessel yesterday morning.
Absorbent
material was shipped overnight to Timaru to help in the clean-up and
Environment Canterbury's team was working with the vessel's owners to
complete the clean-up.
A
wildlife co-ordinator was assessing the impact of the spill on local
wildlife.
It
is not known yet the exact amount of oil that was released or the
cause of the spill, but the spill has stopped and has been contained.
